**About the role**

The Engineering, Health and Environment Branch are responsible for a range of compliance activities such as illegal dumping of waste, wastewater complaints, nuisance activities including overgrown property investigations, regulated parking, noise and light nuisance, smoke nuisance, and broader compliance matters relating to Local Laws and State legislation.

The objective of the team is to ensure compliance with legal responsibilities which are the responsibility of Council to enforce. This diverse range of compliance activities all contribute to the improved amenity, health and safety of the city.

Compliance can be a challenging role however Ipswich City Council is continuously investigating ways through education, partnerships and technology to enhance this role.

Some of your key responsibilities will include:

- In conjunction with senior staff, compile and update procedures for branch technical practices to reflect changes to legislation and best practice within the environmental, community compliance, licensing and investigation operational areas
- Provide proficient and effective technical support to the various Branches and Sections within the Department in order to achieve program aims and objectives
- Inspect properties and liaise with property/animal owners with respect to the compliance of minimum standards in relation to Health and Safety
- This position may be required to work on a flexible roster requiring normal duties to be performed on Saturdays and/or Sundays and may be required to perform after hours work as directed

**About you**

To be successful in this role you will have:

- Degree in Environmental Science or an equivalent qualification and/or substantial experience within a relevant field
- Highly developed communication skills and substantial experience in environment, community compliance, licensing and investigation matters and provision of technical support in assessment and monitoring
- Current Queensland “C” Class Driver’s Licence
- Working with Children Check - Issue of Blue Card and Positive Notice Letter (issued by the Queensland Government) or Exemption Card

This role will require a pre-employment medical and may be required to receive vaccinations to provide appropriate protection within the position.

This is a fixed-term full-time position for 11 months, Level 4-6 with a salary commencing at $82,260 plus superannuation of up to 12.25%.
