Hays is currently partnered with a Geelong-based educational institute to recruit a Payroll Officer for a 6 month assignment.

**Your new role**

This role is responsible for assisting in the preparation and processing of the fortnightly payroll in accordance with company policies, applicable awards and agreements.

Responsibilities will include:

- Assist with the accurate and timely preparation of the payroll run each fortnight.
- Review electronic employee timesheets for each fortnightly pay in the HRP system, ensuring that hours, overtime, penalties and allowances are recorded and claimed correctly.
- Review and process sick leave, annual leave and long service leave bookings in the HRP system and liaise with employees and relevant department managers as required.
- Ensure fortnightly payroll processes and reports are completed accurately and in a timely manner.
- Update and maintain employee payroll records and liaise with employees on payroll related queries as required, including processing pay adjustments in an accurate and timely manner.
- Act on behalf of the payroll co-ordinator in their absence.
- Participate in continuous improvement projects to enhance the efficiency of the payroll department and use of the HRP system.
- Interpret awards/agreements and contracts of employment in relation to payroll related matters and statutory obligations ensuring employees are remunerated correctly and deductions are consistent with statutory requirements.
- Calculate and process termination payments as required.
- Assist payroll co-ordinator with fortnightly and month end reconciliations, including payroll tax, withholding tax, superannuation and other payroll related general ledger accounts.
- Assist with the administration and reconciliation of single touch payroll (STP) and year end taxation requirements.
- Actively participate in an annual performance planning and review process.

**What you'll need to succeed**

To be considered for this role, you will have:

- An appropriate qualification in a discipline relevant to the role or demonstrated experience in payroll processing within a medium to large size organisation.
- Experience with the Technology One payroll system would be desirable.
- Demonstrated experience with the operations of a computerised payroll system.
- Demonstrated ability to interpret and understand employment awards, agreements and relevant legislation.
- Ability to provide a high standard of customer service in an accurate, appropriate and timely manner.
- High-level of time management and organisational skills with the capacity to meet tight deadlines, competing demands and be flexible with work arrangements.
- Ability to work collaboratively as part of a professional team, and as a self-motivated person working independently.
- Demonstrated understanding of confidentiality requirements and the ability to exercise discretion, judgement and initiative.
