Queensland University of Technology (QUT) is seeking a Ion Beam Laboratory Coordinator to join Research Infrastructure, Research Portfolio, Academic Division.

The Ion Beam Laboratory Coordinator will support research and provide solutions to academic and industry clients through delivery of expert services to, and training of, end-users. The appointee will have a detailed technical understanding of the use of Ion Beam Microscopy (particularly Plasma Focused Ion Beam Microscopy/Milling) techniques in one or more fields of materials science.

**About the Academic Division**

The Academic Division is responsible for supporting and delivering learning, teaching, research and research services to students and staff. This is realised via the Education and Research portfolios and through the work of our Faculties.
The Head of the Academic Division is the Deputy Vice-Chancellor and Vice-President (Academic), Professor Robina Xavier. Professor Xavier provides strategic oversight and financial management of the Division and provides leadership to the Education portfolio.
The Division’s Research portfolio and academic faculties, are led by the Senior Deputy Vice-Chancellor and Vice-President (Research), Professor Christopher Barner-Kowollik.

**About the Research Portfolio**

QUT has experienced the strongest, sustained research growth of any university in the sector over the last ten years. The scale and complexity of research at QUT has reached a level that requires enhanced processes and resources to support the University’s research community in meeting its aspirations and compliance obligations.

The Research Portfolio provides high quality support and training and conducts compliance and reporting across a range of obligations at an organisational level in an environment of dynamic growth in cross institutional collaborations.

The Portfolio is comprised of five units including Research Strategy and Policy, Research Infrastructure, Sustainability Strategy, Office of Research Services and Office of Research Ethics and Integrity.

Research Infrastructure includes the university’s Central Analytical Research Facility (CARF). CARF hosts a range of characterisation, analysis and ‘omics’ capabilities, underpinned by $30M of cutting edge technologies in microscopy, mass spectrometry, sequencing, to name a few. These capital investments are effectively leveraged with a dedicated team of research fellows, specialists, and technologists, circa 35 FTE. CARF is predominantly located within the Science and Engineering Centre with additional nodes at the Gardens Point campus and distributed sites.

**What you need to succeed**

You will demonstrate:

- Education, training and/or relevant experience equivalent to postgraduate qualifications or progress towards postgraduate qualifications and extensive relevant experience.
- Proven effective leadership skills that drive high performance and excellence in service provision in a complex environment.
- High level interpersonal and communication skills to enable brokering collaborations with both internal and external stakeholders, as well as promoting connectivity with industry clients.
- Evidence of innovative approaches to problem solving and contribution to an agenda of continuous improvement in operational processes.
- Demonstrated digital literacy in the reporting and data analyses of microscopy measurements.
- Deep technical knowledge of the workings of ion beam instruments, and demonstrated ability to provide and/or coordinate maintenance services.
- Knowledge of, or ability to rapidly acquire knowledge of policies and procedures (including ethics and intellectual property) associated with the establishment of research and commercial projects in a university context.
