**About this role**

Join our small team as a Health Engagement Officer and make a real difference in the lives of those at risk of, or living with, macular disease You'll provide vital support and coaching through our national Helpline to people with varying vision concerns, diagnosis, etc. You will also engage with health care professionals, and lead community education events **on age-related macular degeneration** both in-person and online. This dynamic role offers the chance to drive innovative initiatives and create meaningful impact within the macular disease community. This role **requires** tertiary qualifications in Vision Science, Optometry, Orthoptics, or another vision-related field. Someone with strong interpersonal skills will also excel in this role.

The key responsibilities of the Health Engagement Officer include:

- Providing non-clinical personalised support, emotional coaching, advice and information in matters relating to macular disease either over the phone, in person or online.
- Presenting face to face and online health promotion sessions to the general public, community groups and eye health professionals on the topic of age-related macular degeneration, and other eye diseases.
- Working collaboratively with the Healthcare Relations Manager to engage eye health professionals and associated staff in practices, hospitals and other hubs to raise awareness of MDFA services and optimise referral channels.
- Contributing up-to-date information for resources (services, publications, website, newsletter).
- Attending conferences, events and expos to provide macular disease education and promote the work of MDFA.

The role is 24-month contract with potential for renewal.

**About you**

**Essential requirements**
- Tertiary qualifications in Vision Science, Optometry, Orthoptics, or other vision-related discipline.
- Ability to clearly and confidently communicate eye health information in a simplified way for people with macular disease.
- Demonstrated ability to identify, analyse, and resolve complex problems effectively.
- Strong interpersonal skills with a sensitivity for dealing with those with a chronic health condition and vision loss - confidence on the phone is a must.
- Highly organised with an ability to work independently as well as within a small team, including with volunteers and students
- Proficient use of MS Office products, and adept at managing and using data for the benefit of the program and its participants including with a CRM
- Willingness to travel throughout NSW and interstate, occasionally outside of normal business hours
- Current NSW drivers’ licence and unrestricted working rights for Australia.

**Desirable**
- Familiarity with, and ability to apply, behaviour change principles that support participants to move towards positive health change
- Experience providing education programs or health coaching to groups and individual consumers
- Experience using Salesforce
- Access to a comprehensively insured vehicle
