**The Role**
At the Department of Education, our purpose is to create a better future for all Australians through education. Schools Approvals and Payments team manages the recurrent funding program that delivers over $31.1 billion in funding for Australian schools each year by providing consistent, transparent and needs-based funding to government and non-government schools.

Reporting to the Assistant Director, School Approvals and Payments, the Program Officer role will work in the team responsible for approving schools, collecting school funding data and calculating funding entitlements under the _Australian Education Act 2013_.

**Duties and Responsibilities**
As an APS Level 4 Program Officer you will be responsible for, under supervision:

- Providing a first point of contact for stakeholders via the schools mailbox and helpdesk, resolving moderately complex enquiries from school stakeholders.
- Engaging with schools and internal stakeholders to manage a variety of issues associated with the administration of schools recurrent funding program.
- Preparing and drafting correspondence for internal and school stakeholders (with limited direction).
- Maintaining data on departmental systems to ensure compliance of approved authorities for schools in accordance with legislative frameworks.
- Performing database searches and contribute to reports on relevant program activities.
- Contributing to and implementing business improvements by reviewing, updating and creating standard operating procedures and guidelines.
- Contributing to systems and IT development and improvements by participating in user acceptance testing for program related systems.
- Actioning administrative tasks associated with school data collections (including the non-government school census).
