External Communications Specialist

As **External Communications Specialist**, you will develop and deliver centralised external communications, with a focus on media relations, in support of the departments strategic goals. The role involves managing media stakeholders and aligning messages across the business to effectively promote the brand and manage reputational risk.

**Responsibilities**
- Support design and implementation of the external communications strategy
- Proactively develop communication plans and messaging in collaboration with internal stakeholders to support organisational goals and objectives
- Produce content for digital, print and video including media releases, articles, thought leadership pieces, social media content and other communications materials
- Manage and implement a proactive external content strategy through a variety of communication channels that positively impact staff, stakeholders and the community
- Manage content governance to ensure content and key messaging is consistent across all externally and internally facing platforms
- Development of communications strategies to support elevating the brand and executive
- Drive new initiatives and strive to continuous improvement and effectiveness of communications activities
- Manage projects, events, and campaigns within budget and allocated timeframes
- Support communication activities in response to issues and crises in collaboration with the Head of External Communications and Chief Communications Officer
- Promote stories to local, national and trade media to build the profile and reputation
- Monitor the media inbox and manage media enquiries in a considered and timely manner
- Conduct media monitoring and analysis related to operations and activities
- Work with the Marketing and Comms Specialist to engage external audiences through digital channels
- Partner with external agencies/advisors as required, to develop and execute external communications strategies and plans

**Skills, Competencies and Qualifications
- 5 years' experience working in media and communications roles or as a journalist
- Demonstrated experience in delivering successful integrated internal and external campaigns by growing brand awareness through engaging content
- Diverse content creation experience
- Proficiency in managing brand assets, content management systems, digital asset management systems and digital platforms including social media, intranets and web.
- Experience in developing and implementing strategic communications and engaging with media
- High-level presentation and communication skills including: speaks clearly and fluently; expresses opinions, information and key points of an argument clearly
- Demonstrated capability in building trusted and respected relationships with stakeholders, including senior executives, and media
- Works productively in a high-pressure environment, balancing multiple demands
- Writes clearly, convincingly and in an engaging manner, avoiding unnecessary use of jargon or complicated language
- Highly developed writing, communication, organisation and planning skills
- Excellent interpersonal skills, allowing collaboration and negotiation with staff, clients and external agencies at a variety of levels;
