**About the Opportunity**

Strathfield Council is seeking a Regulatory Officer - Ranger to join our Environment, Sustainability & Compliance team on a temporary full-time basis for up to 12 months.

The position has the responsibility of providing the municipality with high quality, accurate and professional control and enforcement of various requirements under the Local Government, Environmental Planning & Assessment, Public Spaces (Unattended Property), Roads and Protection of the Environment Operations Acts.

To undertake the role, it entails the following duties:

- Conduct extensive clear and concise communication will residents and members of the public, which often takes place in stressful circumstances regarding regulatory services. Ensuring that an efficient and effective solution is reached.
- Detect, investigate and enforce provisions regarding illegal dumping of rubbish and refuse, as per the Protection of the Environment Operations Act (1997)
- Detect, investigate and enforce provisions including but not limited to non-companion animals, trolleys and vehicles, as per the Public Spaces (Unattended Property) Act (2021)
- Detect, investigate and enforce provisions including but not limited to the identification, registration, dog not under effective control, roaming, barking dogs, stray contained dogs, savage dog complaints, nuisance dog orders, dangerous dog declarations and the issuing of infringement Notices for non-compliance, as per the Protection of the Companion Animals Act (1998)
- Detect, investigate and enforce provisions regarding breaches of legislation in council parks and reserves; i.e. motorbikes, horses, taking in or consuming alcohol, vandalism, playing golf etc, as per section 632 Local Government Act (1998)
- Detect, investigate and enforce provisions in relation to pollution spills, sedimentation control, washing of vehicles and any other domestic related offence, as per the POEO Act (1997).
- Liaise with Environmental Health Officers and Environment team in relation to commercial, complex or hazardous incidents
- Detect, investigate and enforce provisions in relation to loud music, air conditioning, and domestic power tools, as per the POEO Act (1997)
- Patrol and monitor the Strathfield Municipality LGA for illegal trading by itinerant vendors
- Complete all associated paperwork and update all relevant registers or databases, in accordance with standard operating procedures and legislative requirements
- Report all incidents of illegal activity, vandalism, graffiti or damage to Council assets in the Strathfield Council area through the correct reporting pathways as per council procedures
- Monitor and detect obstruction of footpaths and roadways and carry out enforcement action in relation to these breaches, including illegal advertising material. Relevant to legislative requirements under Local Government Act 1993, Roads General Regulation, POEO Act 1997, and the Environmental Planning and Assessment Act 1975
- Patrol, monitor and investigate accumulation of rubbish, or unhealthy private land/s on compliant basis and report such incidents to relevant Council’s sections
- Monitor development sites particularly compliance with public domain and roadway interface and respond to any urgent complaints in coordination with building compliance officers
- Undertake outdoor duties during inclement weather
- Carry out investigations and prepare statements
- Prepare and present evidence at Court

**About you**

To succeed in the role, you will have the following:
Relevant building tertiary qualifications such as Certificate III/IV in Local Government (Regulatory Services) or Diploma of Local Government (Regulatory Services).

SDRO / SEINS training

Current NSW Class C Driver's Licence

First Aid Certificate **(Desired)**

Minimum 2 years’ relevant work experience in similar or same position.
