**ADVANCEMENT UNIT**
The role of the Advancement Unit is to implement an annual plan of action designed to capture philanthropic support from alumni and non-alumni individuals and organisations to meet the priority project, endowment, and capital needs of the University. Additionally, Advancement is responsible for building and maintaining relationships with over 27,000 Notre Dame Alumni.
**POSITION PURPOSE**
The Bequests Manager is responsible for the development, growth and quality of the University's bequest program. This position will be responsible for designing, developing and implementing a bequest program that manages and retains existing supporters known to have included the University in their estate planning, and of equal importance, approach prospective bequest program participants to increase uptake. The goal of the bequest program is to strengthen the University's relationships with this critical cohort of donors.
- Develop and design a bequest program, to include annual targets, plans and KPI’s.
- Manage existing bequest program supporters, ensuring their intention remains unchanged, and in some instances, becomes augmented.
- Work with the Advancement lead team providing oversight, guidance, quality assurance and advice on bequests where necessary.
- Proactively work with existing donors, advocates, alumni and friends, upgrading their support, commitment and fidelity to that of participating in the bequest program.
- Identify new institutional strategies for improving the bequest program, using non-Advancement staff and resources to better engage existing and prospective donors.
- Utilise database for relationship management, information recording and reporting opportunities and ensure data and evidence is used to inform future strategy.
- Oversee the preparation, execution and follow-up of the publication of bequest-centric collateral and reporting material. Work closely with the Communications team, identifying relevant donors and stories, and contribute donor and gift information for the University's annual report, and assist in ensuring that appropriate recipients receive the report.
**SELECTION CRITERIA**
- Supportive of the Objects of Notre Dame as a Catholic University.
- Post Graduate qualifications in business, marketing, communications or similar, or an equivalent combination of knowledge, training or experience relevant to the role;
- Significant proven experience in the not-for-profit or university sector with a sound understanding of the principles and best practices of sophisticated bequest and or donor relations programs as they relate to retaining and building long term donor engagement;
- Recognition of professional achievement or membership in relevant industry bodies, i.e. CFRE, MFIA; or membership in CASE, FIA, or EducatePlus;
- Demonstrated experience in the design and management of a bequest program, ensuring the retention of confirmed supporters, the development of new program supporters, and the management of realised bequests;
- Demonstrated ability to navigate between systems-based approaches to bequest and donor relations activities and more bespoke activities tailored for key relationships;
- Proven experience with examples in proactively approaching individuals to secure philanthropic gifts and bequests in support of a cause and in determining the impact on the University’s Mission;
- Excellent written and verbal communications skills with the ability to cultivate authentic relationships and to maintain and upgrade levels of support, whilst collaborating closely with internal stakeholders and communicating outcomes to all supporters, both en masse and in bespoke communications;
- Excellent time-management competencies with the ability to work autonomously and independently on complex projects and relationships whilst maintaining close and regular connections with a team;
- Proven attention to detail with experience in research and analysis, administrative procedures and tools including digital media and office software suites and the use of a relationship-management database.
