What is the role?

ACT Policing is looking for motivated and experienced media and strategic communication professionals who have a demonstrated ability to develop and implement a variety of communication strategies and responses.

Applications are sought from suitably qualified individuals wishing to be considered for a Team Member role in the Media Team to fill an anticipated vacancy in the Communications & Government Relations section of the corporate portfolio in ACT Policing. A merit pool will be created from this process to fill possible future vacancies.

ACT Policing’s Communications and Government Relations team is seeking individuals with experience in areas including media liaison, crisis management, public engagement, strategic communication and event organisation.

Media and Strategic Communications officers support the operational business outcomes of ACT Policing and are responsible for internal and external communications, crisis management and engaging with the community through corporate events.

The vacant position will be required to work an on-call roster and attracts an additional 22% composite.

You will also be required to contribute to the achievement of outcomes in accordance with the regulatory framework, the AFP Code of Conduct and the AFP Governance Instruments. It is expected that the successful applicant will deliver on the core responsibilities and meet any requirements of the position as outlined below.

What will you do?

**The (current vacant) role in the Media Team requires you to**:

- Consider, prepare and respond to media enquires
- Prepare media releases
- Prepare talking points to assist police in conducting press conferences and media interviews
- Manage media stand-ups and press conferences.
- Provide advice and support to police where media engagement is required
- Conduct media training
- Perform on-call duties including out of hours, on weekends and on public holidays
- Manage media at incidents and crime scenes across the ACT
- Work to a roster covering shifts seven days a week including public holidays.

**Strategic communications officers are required to**:

- Develop and implement external communication strategies and campaigns
- Provide communications advice to internal partners
- Prepare internal communication plans and activities
- Create content for websites, social media, publications and marketing collateral
- Assisting in other communication activities including events, public relations and media liaison during peak periods as required.

Essential Requirements

A Negative Vetting 1 (Secret) security clearance or the ability to obtain one

Desirable Requirements

The following skills and/or experience would be highly regarded:
Tertiary qualifications in media, journalism, public relations, organisational communications, marketing or similar.
Relevant qualification or extensive experience and knowledge in media or strategic communications.
