**About Jobs and Skills Australia**
Want to work for an organisation recognised and celebrated for our excellence in leadership, stewardship and innovation? Jobs and Skills Australia (JSA) may be the place for you

As part of a motivated and dynamic organisation, we value being innovative, collaborative, accurate, respectful, courageous, and making a difference.

We are an independent secondary statutory body, within the Department of Employment and Workplace Relations that provides advice and data to the Government on every aspect of the jobs and skills system, to help all Australians realise their full skills potential.
We do this by working with our stakeholders to advise on current vocational education and training, higher education, and migration systems to meet Australia’s future skills and workforce needs.

Our people include specialists in policy, data, economics, communications, stakeholder engagement, digital solutions and research who are located across Australia.

We offer a positive, productive and supportive work environment and are committed to providing an inclusive workplace where continuous learning and building skills and professional networks are a priority.

**The Role**
Reporting to the Director Communication and Media, the Assistant Director Communication and Media is a role that balances the media and communications functions of our small agency. Working within a small team, the Assistant Director has priority responsibility for largely proactive media activities, whilst contributing any additional capacity to the external communications activities of the agency.

The Assistant Director is responsible for proactive and reactive media activities including liaison, strategies and media releases. This is a high-profile role that has a large degree of independence and works closely with the Office of the Commissioners and senior executive to deliver the media function for the organisation. While on-call duties are possible in some specific, pre-notified circumstances, they are not the norm and no on-call roster is maintained.

The Assistant Director will contribute to the strategic communications function of the team, which includes the full spectrum of communication work, including social media, web, direct marketing, stakeholder engagement support and creative services (video content). The Assistant Director will develop communication strategies, creating content and contributing to strategic channel management and evaluation reporting.

**Skills and Capabilities**
We are seeking an individual with the following skills and capabilities:

- Experience or ability to rapidly develop skills in media liaison and proactive media strategies.
- Experience in strategic communication, from strategy development through content creation, implementation, monitoring and evaluation.
- Social media management, particularly of LinkedIn company pages.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including writing media releases and responses and advising senior staff.
- Excellent judgement and strategic thinking ability.
- Produce work requiring little or no revision before finalisation.
- Contribute to a positive team culture that supports collaboration and innovation.

**The Opportunity**
This position is available to Ongoing APS employees as a temporary transfer at level and/or a temporary performance (Acting) opportunity for a period of 12 months.

**Eligibility**

**How to Apply**
Applicants are required to provide up to a one-page summary (no more than 500 words) that outlines skills, knowledge, and experience and why you should be considered for this vacancy. You should take into consideration the position overview (including any detailed position specific requirements) when drafting your response. Where possible include specific relevant examples of your work.
