The Australian Institute of Marine Science (AIMS) is Australia’s tropical marine research agency that provides a unique insight into Australia’s tropical waters and the knowledge to develop relevant and innovative research solutions for the benefit of Australia and the world. From Ningaloo in the west, across the Top End to the Great Barrier Reef, AIMS’ researchers understand large-scale, complex and emerging challenges in iconic marine habitats in Australia’s vast and remote tropical waters. Frequently ranked in the top three marine science organisations in the world, AIMS looks to Australia’s future needs and builds upon existing capabilities and knowledge to improve ocean health, protect coral reefs from climate change and contribute to blue economy.

AIMS is now seeking to recruit an engaging and collaborative leader to the role of Chief Executive Officer. Providing operational and strategic leadership, the CEO will work with the AIMS Chair and Council to develop and implement research and associated business strategies, including the ongoing development and positioning of AIMS within the Australian and International marine research sector to deliver impact. The CEO will bring a demonstrated track record of successful and inspiring leadership in a research environment, along with the capacity to balance the research agenda and focus of AIMS with the development of opportunities for the future. Critical to the success of this role will be an understanding and experience of the key areas of research and scientific endeavour for AIMS, along with the ability to engage, collaborate and negotiate with people and organisations, including government, universities, research institutes, industry and importantly, staff and students.
