Within this dynamic, results driven and international environment we are looking for a Collections Officer to join our business based in our Sydney office. Working as part of a small team, the role of Collector is responsible for the recovery of monies owed to clients in respect of credit-insured transactions, bonds and of uninsured debts placed for collection. **In this position your key responsibilities will be**:

- Working as part of the Australia debt collection team, you will be responsible for Recoveries (insured clients) & Collections (uninsured clients). Responsible for the recovery of monies owed to clients in respect of credit insured transactions, bonds and uninsured debts that are placed for collections.
- Owning and maintaining the day-to-day relationship with client, debtors and 3rd parties including negotiation over recommended action.

Debt Collection
- Responsible for managing a portfolio of debts, implementing the agreed processes and systems to achieve desired goals and results.
- Collection calls to include both first party and third-party collections. You will be responsible for managing cases both in the legal and amicable collection phase.
- Direct debt chasing as well as liaison with 3rd party debt collectors, legal representatives and/or administrators/receivers.
- Contacting debtors by telephone in order to successfully collect on the debt that they owe.
- Make follow up communications a priority to ensure that customers keep their commitments.
- Will respond to customer queries on both standard and non-standard issues, ensuring a full investigation is completed to answer the customer query in full.

Process Improvement
- Identifying and implementing improvements of collection processes and results; reducing time to collection, decrease operating expense, schedule reminder calls or escalate process including a final notification that outlines the next step if a payment is not received.
- Assess the cost effectiveness of taking legal action and prepare suitable cases for transfer to the in-house legal team or external parties.
- You may be involved in group wide projects, providing input and technical knowledge to support the project group.
- **
- Finance related degree or Law degree or will be a licensed attorney in law / legal advisor or will have equivalent work experience.
- Will have minimum two years’ work experience in all phases of a Collection Agency business, ideally within the business-to-business environment or the equivalent related experience (i.e related experience could be gained working under a regulated statute (preferably the Collection & Debt Settlement Services Act and related regulations).
- Proven experience maintaining (ideally collection agency) books and records of accounts. Ideally, you will also have experience of handling trust accounts and trust reconciliation.
- Knowledge and/or experience with Debtor/Creditor Law.
- Experience in the successful management of legal processes in an organization (ideally within a legal services organization).
- Good communications skills both written and verbal and in English (if not native tongue).
- Proven negotiation skills, with a sound judgement and ability to assess cost effectiveness of actions.
- Strong organization skills with the ability to prioritize, work well under pressure and achieve deadlines.
- Results focused individual who is motivated and flexible in approach, a self-starter and team player.
- Demonstrates a strong customer focus and has the ability to assess situations and identify key factors.
