**The Role**
In the Ministerial and Executive Coordination and Communication Division, Social Media Specialists provide professional strategic coordination, policy advice, campaign plans and reputational analysis of social media content. The positions are an important link between the Department and its communication objectives and outcomes.

Supporting the Social Media Manager/Director of Communication, Social Media Specialists are a source of trusted strategic communication advice. Key duties/responsibilities include:

- Develop strategic and engaging content in line with communication strategies and campaign outcomes.
- Prepare community management responses, policy advice and reputational reports.
- Analyse data to deliver quality insights.
- Provide support to social media account managers across Defence.
- Provide/coordinate training and support to stakeholders.
- Provide out-of-hours support on a rostered basis.

Social Media Specialists are either embedded in dedicated teams providing direct support to Army, Navy, Air Force and other Defence Groups, or within a central team supporting enterprise-wide outcomes. Some positions within Army, Navy and Air Force may also include the need to develop and manage IT systems.

An understanding of social media tools and trends is crucial. While an understanding of ever-changing social media functionality is not mandatory, it will be an added advantage.

Social Media Specialists have a vital role in brand management, policy guidance and the amplification of events, imagery and news articles for Defence communication purposes.

Defence is seeking to fill immediate vacancies across several areas. A merit pool will be established to fill future vacancies.

**About our Team**
The Media & Information Disclosure (MID) Branch and the Strategic Communication (SC) Branch are part of the Ministerial and Executive Coordination and Communication (MECC) Division responsible for day-to-day media operations across Defence. MID and SC branches bring together media and communication operations across Defence to ensure the department’s messaging is clear, consistent and up to the expected standards.
