**ABOUT THE BRANCH**

The APS Net Zero project team will be based in Canberra (however remote positions may also be considered), as part of the Property and Construction Division in the Department of Finance. The project team will be newly established, and will work across the Division and with the Commercial and Government Services Group more broadly to deliver on the Government’s commitment.

**ABOUT THE** OPPORTUNITIES**

You will lead a team to deliver the Government’s target for the Australian Public Service to reach net zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2030 - part of the Government’s broader 2050 climate targets.

This project is led by Department of Finance, working closely with the Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water, to drive greenhouse gas emissions reductions across all aspects of government operations.

The first phase of this project is focused on developing the policy, data and reporting frameworks to support this work, including engaging widely across Government and the private sector, and contracting external expertise as necessary.

Your team will also work with staff from all agencies to build APS capability to support net zero outcomes, including identifying and implementing emissions reductions opportunities in their agencies and contributing to whole of government reporting obligations. This will include formal and informal consultations with a range of stakeholders.
- communications and engagement
- governance, measurement and evaluation
- the development and implementation of complex policy, climate, energy or greenhouse gas emissions policy, including (but not limited to) greenhouse gas emissions/carbon accounting, decarbonisation strategies, net zero pathways, energy efficiency, renewable energy or low carbon buildings
- project or contract management
- whole of government data and reporting, including undertaking quantitative analysis to inform government policy
- administration and coordination
- education and capacity building

Additionally, the work will require the drafting of Cabinet Submissions and costing processes, as well as ongoing support and advice to Ministers and Senior Executives through briefings, and governance arrangements to support ongoing delivery.

The opportunity will offer high profile, cross agency exposure, on industry leading climate policy. Through this role you will also develop comprehensive skills in complex policy design, stakeholder engagement, Cabinet processes and whole of government frameworks (such as data, reporting, governance and government operations).
