Biodiversity Officer (Ecology)

Local government organisation based in Western Sydney, seeking a Biodiversity Specialist to join their team.

**Your new role**

Other responsibilities for the role may include:

- Provide strategic advice to inform biodiversity conservation policies and programs.
- Advise on, recommend and implement enhancements to Council policies with regard to biodiversity conservation and maintenance.
- Contribute to the implementation of strategic biodiversity outcomes as outlined in Councils adopted Biodiversity strategy.
- Undertake the review of ecological assessments, Bushland management plans, Vegetation management plans, REF’s, SIS and other environmental assessment reports.

**What you'll need to succeed**
- Essential Skills & Experience_
- Tertiary qualifications in Ecology, Natural Resource Management, Environmental Planning, Environmental Science or equivalent.
- Practical experience in and detailed knowledge of the Cumberland Plain, ecology, wildlife management, and botany.
- Knowledge and understanding of the assessment and review of ecological matters, including review and preparation of REF’s, SEPP’s, LEP’s, DCP’s and other relevant planning policies.
- Detailed understanding of relevant legislative and regulatory requirements including the Biodiversity Conservation Act 2016, Environmental Planning and Assessment Act 1979, Environmental Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999 and NSW Biodiversity Offset Scheme.
- Desirable Skills & Experience_
- Experience working in local government.
- Qualifications and experience in bush regeneration.
- Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of reviewing biobanking assessments, offsetting and Biodiversity Assessment Reports (BDAR’s)
