The Environment and Heritage Group (EHG) within the Department of Planning and Environment brings together a range of functions including national park management, biodiversity and conservation, and heritage conservation.

The Biodiversity, Conservation and Science Directorate improves biodiversity outcomes for NSW, whilst reducing natural hazard risk and enhancing a healthy, productive and resilient environment. The Directorate integrates scientific and economic expertise, policy, program design and on-ground delivery to support the broader EHG.

**About You**

The Policy Officer will work as part of a small team supporting the Deputy Secretary, Biodiversity, Conservation and Science (BCS). The Policy Officer will liaise with staff across BCS and EHG to support the coordination of Deputy Secretary approvals, including Ministerial, Cabinet, and Parliamentary briefings. The role will help ensure that the Deputy Secretary has the information required to make informed and timely decisions.

This is an exciting and satisfying role where you will assist in managing requests for information including from senior executives, Ministers’ Offices, other parts of the agency and other government agencies and coordinate timely, informed and well-constructed responses.

To be effective in this role you will have sound communication skills and the ability to build collaborative relationships across teams. You will have attention to detail and the ability to operate flexibly in a high workload environment and to meet multiple competing deadlines

**Essential Requirements**
- Understanding of the machinery of Government and the policy process or demonstrated ability to acquire knowledge quickly.
