**The role and what we're looking for**

Reporting to the Group CFO, this role leads a multi-year program of work to develop and deliver Capricorns data governance strategy. The key objective of this strategy is to enable Capricorn to meet its compliance obligations as well as establish a framework of control and education to deliver operational value leading from more effective management and reliance of data.

**Key responsibilities of the role include**:
**Data Governance and Data Management**
- Design and development of the Capricorn Group data governance program.
- Establish and facilitate a Data Governance Council to lead decisions on data.
- Manage the creation of a functional Enterprise Data Governance Office (EDGO) and enterprise program structure with clear success criteria.
- Establish and maintain data governance roles, responsibilities, and accountability across the organisation.
- Provide a structure for initiatives to ensure the organisations' data can be trusted and there is definition and accountability for all key data within the organisation.
- Develop a commercial risk-based approach to data privacy project remediation activities.
- Collaborate with cross-functional partners to define and implement the roadmap for data access, discoverability, and auditing.
- Develop operational runbooks for managing access controls, data governance incidents, and compliance data inquiries.
- Provide clarity of the implications of regulatory changes in relation to data obligations.
- Develop and implement data governance policies and procedures to ensure data accuracy, completeness, security, and privacy.
- Execute the overall data management strategy and work closely with data owners, stewards, and the data governance executive sponsor to enforce the agreed-upon governance rules and best practices.
- Establish a data quality program and appropriately define data quality metrics and develop the necessary monitoring required.
- Partner with technology stakeholders to establish appropriate data architecture to optimise data mobility.
- Lead the categorisation of data to ensure appropriate monitoring and risk based escalation for movement of sensitive data.
- Act as the intermediary between the business community and the technical community working with business owners, data stewards, and IT project teams to influence and drive the enterprise data governance program including data quality, data mapping/linage, and data catalogue implementation.

**Program Management**
- Monitor and report on data governance program performance metrics, including compliance and adoption rates, to key stakeholders.
- Develop and conduct data governance training and awareness programs to ensure that employees understand their roles and responsibilities in data governance.
- Collaborate with legal and compliance teams to ensure that data governance policies and procedures comply with regulatory requirements, industry standards, and organizational policies.
- Manage stakeholder communication and progress reporting at multiple levels of the organisation, including senior leadership and executives.
- Collaborate on selecting, monitoring, and reporting metrics on cyber security controls, data quality, data retention.
- Manage external consultant activities where required.

**Experience & Skills**
- Bachelor's degree in computer science, information technology, or related field.
- 10+ years of technical product/program management experience, software engineering, or data governance work.
- Data management/privacy experience in a financial services context.
- Knowledge and deep experience in technical program management methodologies.
- Strong technical and analytical skills, with the ability to identify, quantify, and effectively raise business risks associated with data quality or non-compliance.
