North Sydney, Australia GE Vernova Full time

**Job Description Summary**: The Regional Contracts Manager, reporting the Commercial Operations & Risk Leader in APAC, plays a pivotal role in providing continuity for commercial strategy between the ITO and OTR phases of the project lifecycle.

Providing leadership and guidance to the Project Management and Tendering teams on contract management best practice, with direct support offered in critical deals during the ITO phase and in client negotiations relating to major change orders and claims during the OTR phase.

Acting much a like a consultant, this role is pivotal in ensuring compliance with key processes and in providing direct feedback into the ITO phase to influence and improve our contracting strategy earlier to provide better risk management as projects transition into execution.

This role will also include development of process and best practice in contract management and negotiation for the region, supporting claim activities related to EPC projects with customers, consortium partners, and construction subcontractors of the GEV Power Conversion Portfolio.

Essential Responsibilities:

- Work closely with the Commercial Operations team and the Project Manager for critical deals to develop suitable commercial strategy that will ensure margin growth through execution.
- Collaborate with the Project Management team, Legal, Sourcing, Finance and Quality regarding contract management and, with site operations teams, improve execution excellence and risk mitigation.
- Support the sourcing team in the ITO phase and through to OTR to prepare pass-through terms and conditions for subcontracts and supplier purchase orders.
- Support project risk and opportunity identification and analysis.
- Ensure adequate processes and procedures are in place to ensure the preservation of GEV’s rights and entitlements as provided in the contract.
- Work with Project Managers to ensure proper notices are given in line with contract requirements.
- Support the management of claims to/from subcontractors and suppliers as required.
- Lead mitigation strategy development and negotiations on complex claims with customers, subcontractors, and consortium partners.
- Ensure appropriate documentation executed, including Settlement Agreements.
- Work with Project Teams to drive successful customer change orders and other margin enhancement initiatives.
- Help support development of regional strategies with respect to local project insurance requirements.
- Support and guide the Project Management team in general contractual issues. Clarification of contractual/legal queries, if required by referring to Legal, and support as required in the event of a (potential) dispute.
- Undertake other contractual/commercial tasks as needed/requested by Project Director and/or Management.
- Establish and own a lessons learned process for the region, brining key OTR learnings back into the front end to positively influence our tendering activity.

Qualifications and Requirements
- University Degree in Engineering, Construction and Project Management, Business Administration or Law.
- Contract and claim experience in large EPC projects (min 5 years) and preferably some exposure to Site and FPSO Electric Module construction.
- This role requires an ability to interact effectively with management and peers at all levels within a diverse and matrixed organization and an ability to work horizontally to deliver outcomes.
- Ability to influence others in order to reach a mutually agreeable outcome, in a culturally diverse environment.
- Ability to take initiative and act independently with good judgement.
- Problem solving attitude, pragmatism, flexibility and resilience.
- Understanding of Contract Law.
- Excellent written and communication skills.
- Experience with high-level negotiations.
- Excellent analytical skills.
- Understanding of complex project risk management.
