Situated just 25 minutes from the Adelaide CBD, the Mount Barker District Council is one of Australia’s fastest growing regions. Serving a diverse and rapidly growing community with a population today of 41,000 and projected to reach 70,000 over the next 30 years, Council manages an exciting portfolio of infrastructure assets, including a new regional sporting complex with plans in place for other major projects which will significantly impact Mount Barker as it grows into the State’s second largest city whilst maintaining the rural hinterland and smaller towns and villages of the district.

Reporting to the General Manager Infrastructure and as a member of the Council’s Leadership Group, this newly created role will manage Council’s Asset Management function across a diverse portfolio of infrastructure and community assets in excess of $550m in value. The Manager Assets will lead the delivery of contemporary and accurate asset management plans, systems and strategies aligned to Council’s strategic objectives and the growing needs of the community. Supported by a team of asset professionals, key responsibilities include:

- developing, reviewing and implementing Council’s asset management framework across the organisation including strategies, policies, procedures, systems and data to support good governance;
- ensuring fit for purpose management systems and comprehensive testing programs to report on asset performance and determine future requirements;
- informing the Annual Business Plan and Long Term Financial Plan on the asset management portfolio including forecast capital and operating expenditure;
- engaging extensively with community and stakeholders on plans, service levels and programs;
- developing and leading a dynamic and customer focussed team that can respond to the growth and changing expectations of the community.

Applications are encouraged from asset management specialists with demonstrated experience and expert knowledge of asset management principles and standards, asset and works management systems and development of large capital and maintenance works programs. High level project, risk and financial management capabilities together with proven strategic asset planning and leadership skills will be key, as will strong interpersonal and communications skills, a self-directed approach and a positive results orientation. An appropriate tertiary qualification and/or experience in asset related leadership roles is expected.
