Serving a diverse and growing community with a population today of 41,000 and projected to reach 70,000 over the next 30 years, Council manages an exciting portfolio of infrastructure assets, including a new regional sporting complex, and has plans in place for a new regional aquatic and leisure centre, the Town Square project, Laratinga Water Recovery Plant and continuing major transport projects.

Reporting to the General Manager Infrastructure and as a member of the Council’s Leadership team, this role will lead, develop and manage the diverse aspects of the Maintenance & Operations team of Council including civil works/services, horticulture services, fire prevention and emergency management, cemeteries, asset maintenance and waste services. Supported by specialist teams across the portfolio, key responsibilities include:

- providing effective leadership, management and development of maintenance and operations staff within a framework of continuous improvement, customer centric focus, collaboration and innovation;
- championing a safety culture through the workforce that ensures workers remain safe and have a high level of job satisfaction;
- managing the delivery of a diverse range of infrastructure and environmental services including responding to customer requests for both the community and internal customers;
- ensuring that maintenance programs are in place and well resourced;
- developing and implementing maintenance service levels for all areas of responsibility and monitoring performance against the same;
- implementing change management programs including the introduction of new digital systems and other innovative practices;
- leading reviews for the efficient and effective delivery of services whilst responding to growth and changing community expectations;
- managing multiple contracts and stakeholder relationships across the portfolio;
- preparing operating budgets and undertaking regular reviews to ensure services are delivered in a financially sustainable manner.

Applications are encouraged from experienced contemporary operations management professionals with demonstrated service delivery, asset maintenance and financial management skillsets. Well developed leadership, people development and interpersonal skills, a commitment to customer service, the ability to innovate and manage change and the capacity to strategically analyse problems and formulate appropriate management solutions are key to success in this role. Previous local government experience is not essential, however experience in a management capacity in an operations based environment is important.
