**About the role**:
The successful applicant will work within a small delivery team in providing data services as well as in supporting the development and support of new business analytics services. They will also engage with stakeholders and other members of the delivery team to develop work packages using an adapted scrum methodology.

**Key responsibilities**:

- Plan, develop, configure, maintain and support Microsoft SQL Server database management systems in accordance with user requirements ensuring optimal database integrity, security, back up, reliability and performance.
- Responsible for Capacity planning, High availability, and monitoring of the department’s SQL Server environment.
- Collaborate with and provide advice to the ICT branch and business stakeholders in the design and implementation of new database tier services
- Contribute to the maintenance of production database tier services, including issue resolution and continuous improvement activities
- Design strategies for enterprise databases, data warehouse systems, set standards for database operations, programming, query processes, and security, and create and optimize data models for warehouse infrastructure and workflow.
- Contribute to business as usual and project planning activities
- Contribute to the development of technical documentation

**Mandatory criteria**:

- Excellent SQL Server database Administration skills
- Demonstrated capability to scope, plan and execute projects/tasks - including managing, risks and issues, approvals, and the balancing of multiple competing priorities.
- Excellent MS SQL Server development skills (at least five years of Microsoft SQL Server development)
- Experience with the Business Intelligence development stack, especially SQL Server Integration Services, SQL Server Analysis Services and SQL server reporting services (SSRS).
- Expert level troubleshooting and optimisation skills
- Ability to work independently and within a team. Ability to meet delivery goals and effectively prioritise workload.
- Adhere to Organisational standards.
- Proven record of accomplishment in the delivery of the database layer of software projects
- Excellent interpersonal, organisational, analytical and communication skills with thorough attention to detail.

**Desirable criteria**:

- A relevant degree and/or Microsoft database certifications
- Experience in querying XML and JSON data
- Experience working with source control, e.g., Subversion, TFS, VSS, Git etc.
- Experience on Agile and/or Scrum projects
- Experience using Visual Studio/SQL Server Data Tools
