**About the team**:
The Australian Radioactive Waste Agency (ARWA), a newly established Commonwealth Agency, has a unique opportunity to lead and shape the future of Australia’s expertise in radioactive waste management with a dynamic, multidisciplinary team working together to implement the Government’s commitment to the safe and secure management of the nation’s radioactive waste.

The Communications and Engagement Team leads the internal and external communications of the agency and works across the organisation to ensure stakeholder engagement is thorough and co-ordinated. The team is responsible for all communication assets of the agency and manages community engagement end to end.

Reporting to the Manager Communications and Engagement, the Assistant Manager Communications and Engagement is an influential communicator who tailors advice to diverse audiences whilst supporting a strong collaborative culture to develop, manage and implement policies and initiatives to ensure joined up communications and engagement across the agency and externally. As the Assistant Manager Communications and Engagement, you will have excellent writing skills in order to produce the delivery of effective content and you will bring a collaborative, can-do approach when engaging with stakeholders on behalf of the Agency. The role is responsible for planning and implementing short-term and long-term communication and stakeholder engagement plans and initiatives that support ARWA’s objectives.

**Essential**:

- Demonstrated experience in developing and implementing communications programs and strategies end to end.
- Demonstrated experience of communications and/or engagement program delivery and has the personal resilience to adapt to an ambiguous and changing environment.
- Demonstrated experience in managing communications and/or engagement policies and programs in a government or complex corporate environment.
- Demonstrated ability to effectively manage competing priorities and strategic directions when achieving outcomes in line with agency goals and objectives.
- Developed leadership and management skills, including the ability to provide strategic direction, monitor work and ensure quality outcomes.
- Well-developed written and verbal communication skills, in particular the demonstrated ability to provide sound advice and prepared written reports and briefings.
- Well-developed interpersonal skills that foster trust and cooperation, and a proven ability to work effectively and with integrity within a scientifically complex and politically sensitive environment.
- A valid Australian driver’s licence.

**Desired**:

- Knowledge and understanding of regional development issues.
- Knowledge and understanding of issues affecting Indigenous Australians.

**Qualifications**:

- Tertiary qualification in Communications, Marketing, Social Sciences, Community Development or equivalent experience.

**What you will do**:

- Developing and implementing communications and engagement strategies.
- Managing creation and distribution of internal and external communications, including website and social media.
- Identifying opportunities for community and industry engagement and delivering supporting programs.
- Identifying opportunities for communications and media content and managing to delivery, including digital and social media content.
- Establish and maintain strong relationships with a broad range of internal and external stakeholders to ensure the delivery of outcomes.
- Manage and contribute to grant and sponsorship programs.
- Management of agency visual identity, including supporting collateral.
- Contribute to management of regional engagement, including travel as required.
- Provision of procurement processes and relationship management of external suppliers such as creative agencies.
- Supporting day to day leadership of team including working collaboratively, confidently delegating tasks and monitoring completion.
- Working in a dynamic environment, including team and agency liaison over multiple locations.

**Eligibility**:
To be eligible for employment in the APS and the department, applicants must:

- Be an Australian citizen or going to be granted Australian Citizenship before commencement. You may be asked to provide evidence of this.
- Undertake a pre-employment security assessment and subsequent security clearance. All staff are required to have a minimum baseline security clearance however some roles will require a higher level security clearance. If you are offered a role and do not have a current security clearance, we will work with you to arrange for this to be undertaken.
