About VMIA
Victorian Managed Insurance Authority (VMIA) is the Victorian Government's insurer and risk adviser, covering the people and projects that help Victorians thrive. We're an agency in the Department of Treasury and Finance portfolio, established under the Victorian Managed Insurance Authority Act, and report to the Assistant Treasurer.
We provide insurance and risk advice to government departments and agencies, with more than 4,600 clients, ranging from small community service organisations to public hospitals, schools, and core service providers. We also provide domestic building insurance to builders, giving Victorian homeowners peace of mind for building projects valued over $16,000.
We help our clients prepare for, prevent, or reduce the impact of harm. When things don't go to plan, we help clients restore services and recover quickly.
Our unique perspective across Victorian Government clients is an opportunity for learning and development in the risk and insurance industry as well as the broader public sector, creating deep connections with our clients, and a shared understanding of best practice in our fields of expertise.
People are at the heart of everything we do. At VMIA, you'll be encouraged to achieve your career goals in a progressive and flexible workplace that most importantly lets you be yourself.

Your role
We have a fantastic opportunity for a claims management professional to join the Claims team within the Domestic Building Insurance (DBI) division.
In the DBI team, we're particularly proud of our team culture of agility and innovation. We are seen as leaders of those values both within VMIA and in the industry. When you join us, you'll be a part of a connected, collaborative, and forward-thinking team who love working together and have a genuine passion for harm prevention/consumer protection and the broader building industry. In the claims team, we're very proud of the difference we make to homeowners - every day we get to help people and that's something we're honoured to do.
Reporting to the Head of Claims DBI, you'll be responsible for end-to-end management, assessment, and settlement of a diverse range of domestic building insurance claims, including complex claims involving active participation in VCAT conferences, mediations and hearings leading settlement discussions and working in conjunction with our appointed legal service providers.

- You develop team capability through the provision of advice, coaching and mentoring in policy interpretation, process management and solution options
- You develop and maintain claims policies, guidelines, processes & audit control mechanisms designed to achieve effective resolution of claims within scheme objectives
- You identify trends, make recommendations, prepare reporting, and implement improvements to claims processes, procedures, and management protocols to ensure ongoing alignment with DBI scheme objectives
- You conduct reviews of claims data to ensure compliance with reporting requirements and to manage the resultant exception reporting and error rectification
- You participate in various activities identified as contributing to VMIA's value proposition.

Who you work with
- You work closely with the Head of DBI Claims and the Head of DBI Claims Strategy to actively manage and contribute to the development of new and existing claims services, business practices and product offerings to build the value and contribution of the DBI clients
- You liaise with the Chief Officer, DBI to provide insights and recommendations for the development of the DBI portfolio
- You engage with the DBI Claims Team to provide a mentoring and coaching role giving insight into the policy and processes
- You work across the DBI Division including peers, the Builder Assessment Team, Internal and External Compliance Officer(s) and other support service staff to improve claims management outcomes
