The Parliamentary Counsel’s Office (PCO) is headed by the Parliamentary Counsel and is a Public Service executive agency related to the Department of Premier and Cabinet under the Government Sector Employment Act 2013. The PCO provides a comprehensive and integrated range of high-quality services for the drafting of, and access to, NSW legislation and the giving of advice and information about legislation.
**These roles are for you if you**:
- Are admitted in Australia as a legal practitioner and hold a current NSW practising certificate as a solicitor or barrister (or are eligible to hold such a certificate).
- A sound knowledge of parliamentary and legislative processes and Australian Constitutional law.
- Can demonstrate analytical and problem-solving ability, effective writing skills, policy implementation skills and an eye for detail and accuracy, while managing competing demands through time management skills meeting business needs.
- Would like to contribute to the creation of a high-quality statute book for NSW.
- Are committed to public sector ethics and the highest standards of integrity and professional practice.
**Key accountabilities**:
- Under supervision, undertake routine drafting projects (including preparing drafts of Bills, subordinate legislation and environmental planning instruments).
- Under supervision, advise on the legality of proposed subordinate legislation and other instruments, including advice on the feasibility of legislative proposals and interpretation of legislation.
- Undertake general research.
- Examine and comment on the drafts prepared by other officers as part of the Office’s quality control process.
Please note that some after-hours work may be required, particularly around parliamentary sitting times. After-hours work is managed within the rostering, flexible working, or paid overtime arrangements applicable to the team.

Describe how your legal experience would be relevant to a legislative drafting role (including, for example, any work you have undertaken involving drafting of any type, statutory interpretation work, providing instructions to drafters, policy development, liaising with other agencies or stakeholders about legislative provisions).
