Austin Health is the major provider of tertiary health services, health professional education and research across three campuses in the North East of Melbourne and state-wide. The North Eastern Public Health Unit (NEPHU) is one of nine public health units in Victoria; three in metropolitan Melbourne and six covering regional Victoria. Together these units form a coordinated network, working in partnership with the Department of Health to deliver a comprehensive public health program for Victoria. The NEPHU is led and coordinated by Austin Health and works in partnership with Northern Health and Eastern Health in a networked operational structure with responsibility spanning approximately 1.85m people living in the northeast of metropolitan Melbourne. The NEPHU is proud of its diverse multidisciplinary team who reflect the community we serve.
**About the role**:
Reporting to the Engagement and Capacity Development Lead, the Capacity Development Officer will contribute to collaborative needs assessment, design, implementation and evaluation of strategies, tools and activities targeting capacity development at community, inter-organisational, public health network and system levels. By building on existing strengths and addressing capacity gaps, the aim is to strengthen effectiveness and function across the public health network in the North East of Melbourne to support health and wellbeing of the population.
**Essential Knowledge and skills and selection criteria**:
- A tertiary qualification in a field related to engagement, capacity development, or other relevant fields, or equivalent relevant experience.
- Knowledge and understanding of contemporary frameworks and approaches to capacity development in the health and/or not for profit sector with experience working on projects to achieve system integration or change.
- Significant experience successfully building, developing and managing relationships with a broad range of stakeholders, including all levels of government and community groups.
- Advanced communication and presentation skills, with demonstrable experience leading facilitation and co-design processes with large and diverse teams, groups or coalitions to identify needs and trends and create innovative solutions through collaboration and partnership.
- Experience in strengthening external stakeholder or organisational capacity through co-developing, outsourcing to identified experts and/or facilitating the delivery of activity such as needs identification, resource development, training, eLearning design, coaching, knowledge sharing, networking opportunities and/or other modalities.
- Advanced analytical, project management and report writing skills.
- Strong organisational skills, attention to detail and proven ability and strong track record in efficiently managing tight deadlines and competing priorities.
- A flexible and agile ‘can-do’ attitude.
