**Description**:
To perform this role, it is essential that the person is an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander person. It is therefore a genuine occupational requirement under section 25 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1991.
About the role
As a key member of the ATSICHS Brisbane team, The Deadly Choices Officer is responsible for the delivery of school and community based health education, promotion and prevention activities; in line with the Regional Action Plan and localised Key Performance Indicators.
Duties
As directed, undertake the effective facilitation, instruction and role modelling of key health messages and Deadly Choices education programs.
Distribute health information/program materials and support participants in making healthy lifestyle choices and understanding of risk factors.
Work with the Team Coordinator to plan and implement localised events.
Undertake the set-up of displays and stalls within Primary Health Care clinics, with a focus on tobacco education and awareness, healthy lifestyles and linkage to clinic supports and services.
Assist in the logistics and set up for delivery of Community Days and member service activities.
promote ATSICHS Brisbane services and refer participants for Aboriginal Health Checks and other health programs as appropriate.

Base salary of $75,030 per annum (based on qualifications and experience).

**Skills and Experiences**:
Required
Cert IV in Fitness or Cert III in Primary Health Care.
National Police Certificate.
Working with Children's Blue Card or willing to apply.
Driver’s License.
Evidence of Work Rights.
Travel between work sites on a regular basis.
Travel to work in the community on a regular basis.
Ability to work sensitively and effectively with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, their leaders and health professionals, while respecting traditional culture and values.
Ability to work on weekends and after-hours
Ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team and actively contribute to the team.
The ability to work with other health professionals and organisations.
Demonstrated understanding of the health, social and emotional wellbeing needs of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
Interpersonal skills that demonstrate the ability to effectively communicate negotiate and liaise with clients and members of the community, general and technical staff in the provision of professional quality client service.
Demonstrated ability to deliver health promotion programs to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander target groups in the target area.
Demonstrated commitment to maintain a healthy lifestyle and to engage and encourage Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people to commit to lifestyle change.
Good communication and interpersonal skills.
