Mount Gibson Iron Limited is an established independent Australian producer of premium quality direct shipping iron ore (DSO) with assets in the Kimberley and Mid-West regions of Western Australia.

Mount Gibson’s flagship operation is the Koolan Island mine, located approximately 140km north of Derby in the Buccaneer Archipelago in the Kimberley. The mine is Australia’s highest-grade producer of direct-shipping grade hematite, with an average Ore Reserve grade of 65.5% Fe and a current mine life of +5 years.

**About the role**:
We are now seeking to employ an experienced Environment Advisor at our Koolan Island Operation on a 8/6 (12-hour day) roster from Perth, Broome or Derby.

This position is responsible for assisting the Environmental Superintendent in the delivery of the Koolan Island environmental management program including approvals, reporting, monitoring, training, research, and system development. The role will suit a hands on environmental professional who enjoys a balance of field and office duties. The position provides a unique opportunity to work in the spectacular Buccaneer Archipelago region of the Kimberley on a diverse range of issues including endangered species, marine, rehabilitation and heritage.

**Key tasks and responsibilities**
- Fully supporting the Superintendent as requested and as instructed.
- To undertake all activities in a safe manner and in accordance with site safety requirements.
- Assist in the implementation and maintenance of systems to maintain compliance with environmental approvals and licensing.
- Assist in the preparation of internal approvals (i.e., ground disturbance permits).
- Developing and assisting with internal and external environmental reports.
- Development and maintenance of management plans, procedures, and work instructions.
- Participating in monitoring programs such as water, marine, flora, fauna, and rehabilitation.
- Supporting internal and external audits and inspections.
- Implementing and assisting with environmental awareness and training programs.
- As requested, managing consultants and contractors on a day-to-day basis while they are on site.
- Communicating environmental concerns or issues to management.
- Assisting site personnel with the investigation and reporting of environmental incidents.
- Providing environmental expertise and advice to departments and workgroups as requested.
- Overseeing, facilitating, and supporting ecological research on the Island, particularly on the Northern Quoll.
- Supervising and supporting Cultural Rangers and Environmental Trainees engaged in duties.

**To be successful in this role, you’ll need**:

- Environmental Tertiary qualifications in Environmental Management, Biological Sciences or Natural Resource Management.
- Post Graduate qualifications in biological sciences is highly regarded.
- Minimum 3 years’ experience in a similar position in mining in consulting.
- Ability to work as part of a team as well as independently and unsupervised.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
- Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
- Experience with GIS packages.
- A familiarisation with Western Australian environmental legislation applicable to the mining industry.
- An understanding of mining processes and the subsequent environmental risks and effects.
- A strong attitude towards working safely and a thorough understanding of working within safety systems.
- Effective planning and organisational skills with the ability to prioritise.
- Attention to detail.
- Ability to collate and prepare a written report.
- Experience in fauna survey and research highly regarded.
- Recreational Skippers Ticket highly regarded.
