**WHO WE ARE**:
Open Doors Youth Service (ODYS) supports LGBTIQ+ Sistergirl and Brotherboy young people aged 12 to 24 and is the only service of its kind in Queensland. ODYS is dedicated to:
- Empowering young people to live with pride as valued, celebrated, and authentic members of community
- Engaging a workforce with lived experience and professional expertise
- Providing safe spaces to connect with peers and community to foster a sense of belonging
- Advocating for the rights and needs of our young people to improve their access to resources and supports
- Improving the mental health outcomes of our young people by building the protective factors of community, access and pride
Our mission is that all LGBTIQ+ SB young people have access to appropriate and safe supports, that builds their resilience, strengthens their identity, and provides them with community. Our framework is built on the pillars of safety, connection, and pride.
Our vision is a world where all young people can live authentically and unapologetically, free from the fear of violence, discrimination, and isolation.
ODYS values lived experience workers who are representative of the young people we support. This is a lived experience role so to be successful you will be part of the trans and/or gender diverse community and culturally and linguistically diverse.
**WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR**:
We are currently looking for a Social Worker/Counsellor to join our team of lived experience workers.

- Are culturally and linguistically diverse with experience of working in highly diverse communities

**REQUIREMENTS**:
- A Bachelor or postgraduate degree in Counselling, Social Work, Psychology, or a related discipline, with registration or eligibility for registration with a relevant professional body.
- Experience working in multicultural communities
- Understands the intersectionality between gender identity, sexuality and cultural identity and the barriers this can create for LGBTIQ+ young people
- A current driver’s license
- A current Queensland Blue Card or ability to acquire a Blue Card
- COVID 19 vaccination certificate
**ABOUT THE ROLE**:
- Successfully engaging key stakeholders to ensure safe, appropriate care coordination for young people, their families and communities
- Developing and facilitating psychosocial groups for vulnerable young people
- Delivering outreach services through co-location in the Greater Brisbane area
- Ability to work effectively and respectfully with Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander communities and multicultural communities
- Robust understanding of the issues young queer and gender diverse people face
KEY RESPONSIBILITES:
- Connecting individuals with community services that best meet their needs.
- Assessing the psychosocial needs of young people.
- Leading community development projects that build the capacity of mainstream organisations to better support LGBTIQ+SB young people
- Engaging with individuals and families to understand the challenges they face and identify the best path forward.
- Supporting clients in resolving their issues by sharing information, mediating conflicts, and referring them to relevant services and programs.
- Staying connected with clients to track their progress and provide ongoing assistance as needed
- Maintaining thorough records and preparing reports to ensure quality support and accountability.
Pay: $46.35 per hour
Expected hours: 38 per week
