AWC's mission - to deliver effective conservation for all native animal species and their habitats - is achieved by:

- Operations - delivering effective large-scale land management including fire management, feral animal control, weed control and infrastructure management.
- Science - delivering the largest national biological survey program with a focus on measuring the population of indicator species and the extent of threatening processes as well as conducting research on key issues such as feral cat control.
- Fundraising - mobilising finance (primarily, tax deductible donations) from the general public and philanthropists including through effective communication of field updates from around the AWC estate.

**Description**:
Reporting to the Chief Operations Officer, the Health Safety and Environment (HSE) Advisor provides support, advice, training and guidance to managers and staff across AWC to assist in delivering AWC management activities safely and in accordance with embedded systems and standards. You will need to liaise and influence a range of internal and external stakeholders to ensure the smooth running of the HSE function at AWC.

**Key Responsibilities**:

- Lead the maintenance and upgrade of the AWC HSE management system, ensuring it drives safe business practices that mitigate and control critical risks,
- Identify, develop and drive HSE improvement initiatives across AWC in pursuit of positive culture change,
- Lead the development, provision and recording of HSE training to AWC staff across Australia,
- Lead the development of communications materials to support HSE campaigns and sharing of lessons learnt, promoting use of HSE Malanet site as the first port of call for HSE information,
- Manage the Myosh Incident and Hazard Management System,
- Analyse AWC HSE performance, trends, casual and contributing factors and key metrics,
- Prepare the quarterly AWC board report as well as regular reports for the AWC executive team,
- Lead the Emergency Response system framework and planning across AWC, including device and emergency test exercises and management of the duty roster,
- Manage the implementation, contractual arrangements and ongoing effectiveness of the remote work tracking device system (Spot Trackers / Tracker Trace) and aviation tracking device (Spider Tacks),
- Ensure risk registers and risk assessments are developed and maintained,
- Lead incident investigations into high-risk incidents / near miss events,
- Lead HSE assurance and report on action closeout,
- Provide support for office safety for the Subiaco office, including fire warden and first aid officer training, emergency exercises, safety equipment checks etc,
- Ensure AWC leaders are aware of their HSE legislative obligations and their accountability for compliance with those HSE legislative, regulatory and licensing requirements, and,
- Support the AWC executive team with Enterprise Risk Management.

**Skills and Experiences**:
**Requirements**:

- Tertiary qualification in a relevant discipline,
- Strong background in HSE, preferably in a multi-site operational and/or regional context,
- Leadership experience, particularly in developing strong internal relationships to drive organisational cultural change,
- Experience in leading complex incident investigations,
- Detailed knowledge of state-based HSE legislation and standards across Australia,
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively with others, both internally and externally,
- Experience working in a remote or rural setting is desirable,
- A valid manual drivers license and ideally 4WD experience, and,
- An interest in wildlife conservation and land management is desirable.
