**The Role**
Defence Finance Group (DFG) provides independent and contestable financial analysis, advice and assurance to Government capability submissions, as well as independent financial support, management and reporting on Defence and Government financial matters.

You will be a part of a team of professionals delivering accurate, timely and high quality analysis and advice on capability submissions, from a financial and government process perspective. You will have diverse experience and skills in disciplines including policy, governance, financial management, and business management. As an APS 6 Budgeting Officer in the Unapproved Capability team, you will employ a high degree of stakeholder engagement to achieve a range of analysis tasks and activities across Capability Project’s Acquisition and Sustainment budgets.

You will support our Branch by undertaking analysis, and shaping written and verbal advice for senior leaders and colleagues across Defence. You may also have engagement with central agency stakeholders including the Departments of the Prime Minister and Cabinet, Finance and the Treasury. You will be committed to supporting the business deliver outcomes through your advice and the provision of accurate, timely, and relevant information, to assist Group and Service decision making to deliver Defence capability objectives and strategic outcomes.

**About our Team**
We are an established DFG team servicing unapproved capabilities across Specialist Groups within Defence; including Defence Science and Technology Group, Joint Capabilities Group, Defence Intelligence Group, and Strategy, Policy and Industry Group. We are a Finance Business Partner team providing excellent budget and financial analysis and advice to unapproved capability projects within the Integrated Investment Portfolio (IIP).

The IIP invests approximately $44 billion a year into complex projects and its finances require close management to meet public expectations. Information our team provides is used to support decisions of national significance, and help shape major national operations and initiatives. This is achieved by the team providing:

- financial, policy and government process advice to Specialist Groups Senior Official and their staff, on Cabinet and Ministerial submissions - in the context of the individual submission and the financial position of the Group and Defence;
- financial advice to the Defence Finance Group senior leadership and senior officials on Specialist Group’s Cabinet and Ministerial submissions and the likelihood of achievability;
- critical financial support to major capability/budget activities including the strategic reviews, Force Structure Plan, Defence Capability Assessment Plan, and Bi-Annual reviews of Defence’s capability acquisition and sustainment plan - the IIP;
- high engagement with key stakeholders, both internally and externally of the Department;
- building financial and government process acumen of staff supporting capability Cabinet and Ministerial submissions; and by
- shaping related policies.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with an ability to influence across a range of stakeholders. This includes researching alternative positions and presenting options effectively and persuasively.
