About the Role
As the Level 3 Repair Technician you will report to the Maintenance and Supply Support Manager and be part of a team responsible for the maintenance, service and repair of electronic communication equipment in support of Australia’s Defence High Frequency Communications System (DHFCS) and the future Enhanced Defence High Frequency Communications System (EDHFCS) at the Level 3 repair facility. You will be required to follow detailed instructions to inspect, diagnose repair and troubleshoot electronic assemblies, ensuring all appropriate technical and safety standards and checks are completed and adhered to.
Key responsibilities will also include:
- Follow detailed instructions provided via checklists and guides to check, inspect, diagnose, troubleshoot, repair, maintain (corrective, preventative & Deeper Level Maintenance (DLM)) & service of electronic, HF & ICT equipment using test equipment, hand tools and proper repair techniques.
- Perform quality checks, diagnostics and troubleshooting following standard procedures to quickly identify the cause(s) of issues and replace faulty components with mínimal disruption. Verify dimensions, grounding, labelling and cabling are properly set up according to safety protocols, standards, and design documentation.
- Maintain a safe and clean environment by keeping shelves and workstations neat; complying with company procedures and policies.
- Participate in safety briefings, completes required safety training, complies with safety procedures (e.g., equipment use, lifting, and electrical hazards)
- Contribute to a positive and effective team environment by sharing information with others, contributing to regular team meetings, asking questions, and staying apprised of the status of others' work.
- When required on an occasional basis, support any System Integration & Test Lab (SITL) or Network Management Facility (NMF) activities, including (but not limited to) the setting up, and performing start-ups and shutdowns (e.g., racks, servers, switches, radios) according to specific instructions provided via technical documentation.
- When required on an occasional basis, deploy to remote sites to support DHFCS and future EDHFCS as a redundancy for node technicians for leave cover and/or surge req.
About you
You will have a Cert. III or higher in Electrical, Electronics and Communications or equivalent a good understanding of electronic components, RF systems & ESD precautions.
You will also have:
- Experienced working with electronic equipment and servicing, repairing, calibrating, and testing electronic circuit boards, devices, subsystems and other equipment.
- Ability to perform Deeper Level Maintenance (DLM) & low-level repairs, down to individual components following strict guidelines and industry standards.
- Knowledgeable with IPC, Defence and/or other electronics quality standards.
- Ability to obtain ITAR & NV-1 security clearances.
Lastly it is desirable if you have advanced Diploma/Assoc. Degree in Electrical, Electronics and Communication or equivalent. With the below:
- Preparing reports, test procedures, SOPs & other technical documentation.
- Working knowledge of Defence HF communication systems.
- At least 5 years’ experience in the Electro-technology or Communications Industry.
- Experience with problem reporting and inventory/asset management systems.
- IPC-610, IPC-620, IPC-630, J Std-001.
- Previous Defence industry experience.
