**About QIMR Berghofer**:
QIMR Berghofer is a world-leading translational medical research institute focused on improving health by developing new diagnostics, better treatments and prevention strategies, specifically in the areas of Cancer, Infection and Inflammation, Brain and Mental Health, and Population Health. Based in Herston, Brisbane and working in close collaboration with clinicians and other research institutes, QIMR Berghofer is home to more than 600 scientists, students and non-research staff.

**About The Don McManus Tropical Health Research Centre**:
QIMR Berghofer has recently established a tropical health research centre in the name of the late Professor Don McManus - The Don McManus Tropical Health Research Centre (‘the Centre’). The Centre spans the full spectrum of research from conception through to translation and implementation (bench to community). The Centre brings together researchers with the common goal of developing and evaluating evidence-based solutions for the control and elimination of tropical diseases against a background of poverty and a changing climate.

**Role Purpose / Responsibilities**:
As Communication Officer, you will be responsible for raising awareness of the Centre, its partner institutes, and its achievements, protecting and enhancing a world-class academic reputation, and promoting and aligning the vision and values of the Centre through internal and external communications.

You will build strong relationships and communication lines with researchers, senior managers, media, government and other relevant stakeholders.

**About you**:
To be successful in this role, you will have tertiary qualifications in journalism, communications or other relevant degree with prior corporate or internal communication experience. You will have excellent writing skills, including the ability to write highly engaging and clear content for different audiences and different communication channels as well as experience in identifying and developing stories across various external platforms. Previous experience in a medical, scientific or research setting and/or knowledge of tropical infectious diseases or public health would be highly desirable.

**Remuneration**:Salary range is $44,461 to $48,962 per annum plus super and generous salary packaging. This is a part time (0.5 FTE), fixed term appointment until 31 December 2028.
