**Who is the National Heavy Vehicle Regulator?**
The National Heavy Vehicle Regulator (NHVR) commenced operations in 2013 as an independent body responsible for
regulating all vehicles in Australia over 4.5 tonnes gross vehicle mass. Located in Brisbane, the NHVR minimises the
compliance burden on the heavy vehicle transport industry, reduces duplication and inconsistencies across state and
territory borders, and ultimately for the heavy vehicle business with government in Australia.

Position Description | Investigations Officer
**Environment**
Through leadership and influence, the NHVR administers a national system that delivers consistent and streamlined
regulatory services and administration to the Australian heavy vehicle road transport sector, reducing regulatory burden
whilst enabling greater safety and productivity.
The Investigations Officer supports the achievement of national Regulatory Compliance Services outcomes by ensuring
the delivery of high quality investigations into potential offences under the Heavy Vehicle National Law (HVNL).
Key to the success of this position is the ability to work closely with the heavy vehicle industry and supply chain parties,
partner agencies and other stakeholders to achieve improved regulatory compliance outcomes for heavy vehicle safety,
efficiency and productivity.
The person will enjoy working in a challenging, fast paced environment and will be proactive, professional with
demonstrated experience in maintaining a high level of confidentiality.
**Primary Objective**
- The Investigations Officer will conduct investigations into potential breaches of the HVNL, including serious criminal
offences committed by persons in the chain of responsibility, executive officers and legal entities.
- Work closely with on-road safety and compliance officers, Police and other partner agencies to ensure that serious
and systemic offending within the heavy vehicle industry is identified and thoroughly investigated to improve overall
safety and efficiency.
- Work effectively in a team environment to achieve outstanding results.
**Key Responsibilities/Accountabilities**
- Conduct complex investigations and prepare extensive full briefs of evidence for serious offences against the HVNL.
- Drive and influence continual improvement and development of investigations and promote innovative compliance
approaches.
- Prepare detailed witness statements and conduct evidentiary interviews in accordance with best practice and
national investigation guidelines.
- Assist the development and delivery of educational materials, processes and tools for use by on-road staff.
- Promote compliance with the HVNL by providing education, guidance and assistance to the transport industry and
their supply chain partners.
- Work collaboratively with operators and parties in the chain of responsibility to deliver joint initiatives that improve
compliance and road safety.
- Complile accurate and timely reports in relation to a range of issues.
- Effectively use the NHVR case management system COMTRAC.
- Adhere to all NHVR policies and procedures to ensure compliance with NHVR internal processes.
- Comply with WH&S policies and procedures and contribute and promote a safe and healthy work environment.
