**About the role**:

**How you'll make a difference**:
The Director, System Service Design Adults and Older Adults will play a key leadership role in the programmatic design and planning for the establishment of age-based service streams for adult and older adult.

Leading a unit that includes two teams - the Crisis and Bed-Based Reform Team, and the Core Functions and Community Services Team - the Director will have a particular focus on design and planning service streams prior to transitioning them to the systems management branch or other relevant areas of the Division when they advance to implementation stage.

The Director will build effective links across teams in the unit, branch and division to ensure that service system design supports implementation of key reforms and future system design. The Director will develop and maintain strong relationships with sector partners, other Department of Health Divisions and Victorian Government departments.

**Key deliverables for the Unit include**:

- The transformation of the area mental health and wellbeing services for adults and older adults in collaboration with Performance and Commissioning Branch, including Adult and Older Adult Area Mental Health and Wellbeing Services delivered through partnerships between public health services or public hospitals and non-government organisations that deliver wellbeing supports.
- Delivering a responsive and integrated mental health and wellbeing system in helping people find and access support and treatment, needs and identification and support functions in are delivered across the system state-wide based on a philosophy of “how can we help.”
- Developing “safe spaces” and crisis respite facilities for the resolution of mental health and suicidal crises which are consumer led and, where appropriate, delivered in partnership with non-government organisations
- The establishment of older adult mental health and wellbeing specialist multidisciplinary teams and Areas services to provide specialist mental health treatment, care and support for people with complex and compounding mental health needs generally related to ageing; and assist primary and secondary care and related services that support older Victorians, including aged care, through primary consultation, secondary consultation and shared care.
- Development of new models of care and new whole of system rehabilitation pathway including new bed-based rehabilitation services.

**Accountabilities**
- Provide leadership and direction on delivery of key service and program design projects for the mental health and wellbeing system, focusing on reform and continuous improvement. This includes contributing to decisions that impact the division and other parts of the department, with the potential to flow into the mental health sector in the short, medium and long term.
- Lead and oversee management of the programmatic design and planning of reforms and pathways for local and area mental health services, including leading the design stages of key projects for the establishment of an integrated and responsive Adult and Older Adult service stream.
