**About the Department**

The department provides a wide range of learning and development support and services.

The department provides policy leadership, plans for the future of education in Victoria and leads key cross-sector collaboration. The department plays an important system steward role by providing support, guidance, oversight and assurance across early childhood and school education systems, as well as directly providing school education and 50 new early learning centres.

**About the Victorian School Building Authority**

The Victorian School Building Authority (VSBA) is part of the Department of Education. Established in 2016, it oversees Victoria's largest school building program since the state introduced free public education in the 1870s.

The VSBA upgrades and expands existing schools and plans, designs and builds new schools to meet enrolment demand. We also support schools to maintain their buildings and grounds by offering expert advice and coordinating maintenance programs and grants.

With Victoria recently introducing two years of funded kindergarten, the VSBA is also working with the early childhood sector on a massive kindergarten construction program.

**About the Division**

The Division also plans and co-ordinates delivery of new early childhood facilities and support for the wider early childhood sector to build, improve and upgrade infrastructure through a number of grants programs, including programs which provide funding to make kindergartens for inclusive for children of all abilities.

The Asset Strategy Branch sits within the Strategy and Planning Division in the VSBA. The Asset Strategy Branch is responsible for asset strategy and operating framework, investment strategy, policy setting, information management, budget strategy and coordination.

The Policy Unit provides policy advice and analysis for the school portfolio. It also supports the management and collation of asset data and information, along with associated systems and processes. The Policy Unit develops and maintains infrastructure policy and sets frameworks for school infrastructure management and compliance.

**About the Role**

Reporting to the Manager, Policy Unit within Strategy Branch, the Policy Offier role is involved in planning and implementing operational policy relevant to school infrastructure by:

- Coordinating aspects of assigned projects
- Develop high qualty concise operational policy and guidnace for school leaders
- Collaborating with internal and external teams on a range of matters, such as planning, design, legal and communications.
- Establishing and/or maintaining effective relationships with a range of stakeholders to manage risks and resolve issues impacting the successful delivery of key project milestones.
- Contributing to problem solving with reference to governance processes to resolve 'roadblocks'.

The key accountabilities for the Policy Officer are to:

- Review and and develop solutions for complex asset mangemetn related problems
- Provide high quality accurate advice to the Manager and Executive team.
- Coordinate and produce reporting and written communication which supports effective decision-making by VSBA Executive, the Department and Government;
- Analyse data to articulate trends, provide rationale for variances and develop recommendations for embedding insights from analysis to drive action
- Work collaboratively across the VSBA and broader Department to manage information and processes across the portfolio, acting as a key point of contact for multiple teams and stakeholders
- Contribute to continuous improvements for delivery through automation and process improvement.
