Our Federal Government client is seeking to engage a Assessing Officer on a contract for 12 months with potential extension.

**Key duties include**:

- Providing high quality customer service to industry clients who have applied for an import permit or are importing goods to Australia
- Providing sound technical advice to importers, operational staff within the department and other stakeholders on management of biosecurity risks
- Preparing changes to the department's import conditions database (BICON)
- Assisting with the preparation of written briefs, reports, correspondence and other documentation.

Desirable knowledge and experience

Knowledge or previous experience in the following will be advantageous:

- Australia's biosecurity system and its importance
- the types of biological materials that may be used in a laboratory (however applicants do not need to have worked in a laboratory setting)
- customer service
- communicating complex information in a clear, written format.

**Skills and capabilities**

Successful applicants will work as a member of a large team and must possess the following skills and capabilities:

- ability to analyse and communicate scientific, technical and policy information
- have well-developed written and verbal communication skills
- good attention to detail with a focus on producing high quality and accurate work
- ability to work independently and as part of a team.

**Mandatory qualifications**

A tertiary qualification in a relevant area of biological, animal science or related scientific discipline is mandatory.
