The Specialist Protective Command (SPC) deliver a suite of highly specialised, integrated and adaptive aviation, protection and specialist capabilities to deter, respond and resolve threats to protect Australians and Australia's national interests at home and abroad.
SPC Taskforce Fremont
The taskforce engages with a broad range of stakeholders to collate, analyse and produce holistic insights and intelligence which informs whole-of-system decision making to enhance security settings of nominated Commonwealth interests.
The successful candidate will be expected to deliver on core responsibilities and meet any specific role requirements. Operating under broad direction, you will contribute to a cooperative and adaptable environment aligned with the SPC's and AFP strategic objectives.
As a Team Member in the AFP you will be required to contribute to the achievement of outcomes in accordance with the regulatory framework, the AFP Code of Conduct and the AFP Governance Instruments. It is expected that the successful applicant will deliver on the core responsibilities and meet any requirements of the position as outlined below.
What will you do?As a Protection Assessment Officer you will:
- Contribute to operational and strategic level reporting and intelligence insights in support of Command objectives.
- Undertake a range of tasks associated with the handling of information and intelligence to support AFP operations and business activities.
- Proactively plan, collect, collate and analyse information to produce and disseminate operational and strategic assessments.
- Liaise with clients and build collaborative relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
- Perform secretariat functions and administrative duties where required in support of Command requirements.
- Utilise AFP information management systems to interrogate, input, collate and retrieve data.
- Maintain currency in threat, risk and vulnerability assessment concepts and methods through formal and informal professional development and learning opportunities.
- Maintain knowledge and situational awareness of contemporary global, social and political issues likely to resonate onshore within the national security environment.
Band 4 & 5
- You must be an Australian Citizen at the time of application.
- A Negative Vetting 1 (Secret) security clearance or the ability to obtain one.
- Knowledge of protective security and/or intelligence concepts and methods.
- Effective written, oral and interpersonal skills with ability to produce high quality written work.
Band 5 only:
- Ability to engage, cooperate and collaborate with a broad range of stakeholders.
- Ability to think strategically, identify risks, opportunities and solutions which advance organisational objectives.
- Actively build team capability, including leading complex, challenging or sensitive projects where required.
The following skills and/or experience would be highly regarded:
- An understanding of protective security principles and Australian government security policies.
- When applying you will be asked to nominate your preferred band level, however final determination of the band level you are found suitable for is at the discretion of the panel.
- This role is located in Canberra and applicants are expected to be based in Canberra.
- This role is an AFP Band level 4 and 5.
- This role attracts a composite allowance in recognition of expanded working hours, normal patterns of attendance and shift patterns (such as afternoon shifts, weekends and Designated Public Holidays) that are required under the Operations working pattern. In accordance with the AFP Enterprise Agreement, an employee who is required to work in accordance with the Operations working pattern will receive a Core Composite of 22% in addition to their base salary, which will count as salary for superannuation. The Commissioner has the authority to remove a composite from a role.
