The position can be Sydney or Brisbane based, with hybrid working arrangements.

Overseas travel maybe required, and may be more significant as the role develops.

What needs to be done?

More specifically, your responsibilities will include:

- Provide general legal advice to all Howden business units worldwide to ensure compliance with Howden Group policies.
- Assist with compliance including but not limited to (a) advising on GDPR; (b) advising on anti-bribery and corruption; and (c) advising on competition law.
- Review customer terms and conditions of contract and render advice to business units consistent with Howden Group policy, relevant law and good commercial practice.
- Negotiate and liaise with customers on behalf of business units as required.
- Provide guidance and conduct training courses on internal legal policies including terms and conditions and contract risk management for Howden business units.
- Provide assistance in relation to global litigation, disputes and warranty claims.
- Assist in acquisitions, including documentation, due diligence and integration in accordance with project schedule.
- Guide and monitor outside legal counsel on legal matters for the Company Business Units, including IP.
- Liaise and interact with Parent company Corporate management and specialist departments (trade compliance, tax, insurance, EHS, IP, etc.) on relevant matters

What do you need to bring?

It is fundamental that you present professionally and are an articulate team player with strong communication skills in order to manage cultural sensitivities. You will need an understanding of authority limits and when to refer matters to Howden Group Management for approval.

Essential skills, knowledge and behaviours are:

- Qualified lawyer (3year+PQE).
- Experience and knowledge of compliance issues e.g. GDPR, trade compliance, competition law, bribery and corruption.
- Experience in dealing with commercial contracts and reviewing terms and conditions.
- Experience in negotiating with a variety of clients/companies.
- Had involvement/played a support role in large complex contracts.
- Robust analytical ability combined with commercial fluency and attention to detail

Desirable skills, knowledge and behaviours:

- Relevant experience in dealing with international commercial contracts.
- Experience in negotiating with both Australia based and international companies.
- Legal experience particularly in-house as opposed to private practice would be an advantage
- Experience of general corporate work
