**ABOUT THE BRANCH**
The Specialist Investment Vehicles (SIVs) and Funds Branch, Commercial Investments Division, has 4 sections Australian Government Investment Funds, SIVs, SIVs governance and Policy and Government Business Enterprise (GBE) Governance, Policy & Appointments.
The Australian Government has established a number of Investment Funds (Funds) and SIVs to deliver policy outcomes, whilst generating a return on invested capital. The Funds and SIVs have bespoke legislative and governance structures but generally are at arm’s length from Government with their own dedicated management team and Boards which are responsible for their day to day operations and investment decisions.
The Branch develops and maintains the legislative framework and investment mandates for SIVs and Funds in response to policy changes or material changes in the investment environment and makes revisions where needed to assist alignment with the Government’s policy objectives and financial and risk tolerances.
The Government Investment Funds team works closely with specialist advisors, the Future Fund Management Agency, the Treasury and other Commonwealth Departments to deliver policy outcomes for the Australian Government. This work includes a broad range of governance, reporting and technical investment issues. The team works with autonomy and engages regularly with investment market and risk matters and leads on the development and oversight of investment mandates and other instruments.
The SIVs teams are developing a governance framework that provides guidance to SIVs on best practice and provides tools and relevant information that Government can use for consistent and central oversight of the portfolio of SIVs. The governance framework for SIVs should build on best practice from private sector funds management tailored to meet Government’s unique circumstances including legislation and investment mandates. The teams will advise Government of SIV performance and portfolio risk measurement.
The Branch also oversights GBE governance policy and supports Ministers in appointments to GBE, Fund and SIV Boards.

- Clean Energy Finance Corporation (CEFC)
- Export Finance Australia (EFA)
- Northern Australia Infrastructure Facility (NAIF)
- National Housing Finance and Investment Corporation (NHFIC)
- National Reconstruction Fund Corporation (NRFC)
- Regional Investment Corporation (RIC)
Funds include:
- Future Fund
- Medical Research Future Fund (MRFF)
- Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander Land & Sea Future Fund (ATSILSFF)
- Future Drought Fund (FDF)
- Disaster Ready Fund (DRF)
- Disability Care Australia Fund (DCAF)
- Housing Australia Future Fund (HAFF)
**ABOUT THE**
**OPPORTUNITY**
The Department is seeking a talented leader for the position of Assistant Secretary, (SES Band 1), Specialist Investment Vehicles and Funds, Commercial Group.

In addition to this, you will:
- Determine and be accountable for objectives, priorities, resources and task allocation;
- Strengthen organisational capability, including through the management and leadership of people;
- Provide leadership and commitment to significant internal change programs and work alongside colleagues to build and maintain a whole-of-department strategic capability to provide advice on emerging priority issues;
- Formulate proposals and advice for Ministers / Secretary on policy and management issues which are the responsibility of the branch;
- Represent the Department in high-level discussions and negotiations with key stakeholders / outside organisations, and work closely with the Department’s Executive;
- Drive a positive workplace culture by designing and delivering approaches to embed desired behaviours across the organisation.
