**About the role**
This is a temporary 0.2 FTE Staff Specialist position within ISLHD Cancer Services and affiliated with an Australian Medical Oncology Clinician Scientist PhD Scholarship Program. Affiliation with the University of Wollongong is highly desirable.
The position is designed for a PhD student to work eight hours per week in a clinical setting for the period of their PhD. The purpose is for the student to maintain and further develop their clinical skill set by providing medical assessment and management of patients while building research capability. The position will report to the Head of Service - Medical Oncology and collaborate professionally with the Medical Oncologist team and all multidisciplinary teams within the Division of Cancer Services.
The location of the role is primarily at our Shoalhaven Cancer Care Centre, however the incumbent may occasionally have the opportunity to work at our Illawarra Cancer Care Centre.
The appointment is conditional upon both the applicant’s successful enrolment into an Australian University Medical Oncology Clinician Scientist PhD Scholarship Program and ISLHD approval of the PhD research project to ensure it is pertinent and appropriate to Cancer Services and Research Central, ISLHD.
It is expected the Medical Oncology Clinical Research Fellow will proactively:
- Actively contribute to medical oncology research within the department
- Participate in Cancer Services multi-disciplinary team meetings and ongoing collaboration with the clinical trials team
- Support the development of Cancer Care services
- Support and facilitate a culture of learning and best practice

**Selection Criteria**
- Specialist registration or eligible for specialist registration as a Medical Practitioner with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) within six months.
- Fellowship of The Royal Australasian College of Physicians (FRACP) with subspecialty training in medical oncology and/or equivalent specialist recognition, or eligible to receive FRACP with subspecialty training in medical oncology and/or equivalent specialist recognition within six months.
- Enrolment in an Australian University Medical Oncology Clinician Scientist PhD Scholarship Program, or evidence of enrolment in an Australian University Medical Oncology Clinician Scientist PhD Scholarship Program within 6 months.
- PhD research project pertinent and appropriate to Cancer Services and Research Central, ISLHD.
- Evidence of continuing medical education and self-monitoring/audit practices consistent with the scope of practice requirements of the position and demonstrated commitment to teaching with experience in teaching both undergraduate and post graduate students and other staff of the hospital.
- Proven capacity and/or experience in the provision of effective high-quality services, demonstrated through successful clinical practice in an environment appropriate to the requirements of the position including evidence of participation in quality improvement activities relevant to the specialty.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively and harmoniously with medical and other health services colleagues as part of a multi-disciplinary health care team and demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with patients, colleagues, and staff and to work as an effective member of the clinical team.
- Willing commitment to the services of Wollongong and Shoalhaven Cancer Care Centre and patients of the Illawarra and Shoalhaven communities.
