**_General Medicine - Staff Specialist - Shellharbour Hospital_**

**An exciting opportunity exists for an experienced General Medical Physician to join the ISLHD team. The position is based at Shellharbour Hospital on the beautiful South Coast of New South Wales where training is provided for Medical Students from the University of Wollongong, Junior Medical Officers, Basic Physician Trainees and Advanced Trainees in General Medicine.**

The successful applicant will join a dedicated and skilled team of physicians some of whom are also trained in cardiology, respiratory medicine, endocrinology, renal medicine and infectious diseases. We welcome any physician who has fellowship in general medicine with or without training in other sub-specialties.

We are seeking well rounded individuals with Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (FRACP) and demonstrated subspecialty training in General Medicine (desirable) or other subspecialty training (such as respiratory, infectious diseases) OR are eligible to receive FRACP and/or specialist recognition within 3 months of conditional offer.

The Staff Specialist will provide expert medical assessment and management of patients within General Medicine. In addition to providing a high level of care in general medicine, it is highly desirable that you will bring an area of subspecialty expertise (such as respiratory, infectious diseases, gastroenterology, and neurology) likely to enhance the breadth and depth of services available in the district. The position will be primarily located at Shellharbour Hospital but may be varied as agreed with the Director of Medical Services and as approved by the Medical and Dental Appointments Advisory Committee (MDAAC) to other facilities in ISLHD.

**Shellharbour Hospital** is currently a 197 bed facility providing a comprehensive range of inpatient, outpatient and community-based services. The inpatient services include aged care, medical, surgical, mental health and acute medical assessment inpatient beds, plus a Day Surgery Unit. The hospital provides emergency services, elective surgical services, general medical, antenatal and primary family health care, satellite renal dialysis, as well as adolescent and adult mental health services.

- **Selection Criteria**

1. Specialist registration or eligible for specialist registration as a Medical Practitioner with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).

2. Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (FRACP) and demonstrated subspecialty training in General Medicine (desirable) or other subspecialty training (such as respiratory, infectious diseases) and/or equivalent specialist recognition.

3. Evidence of continuing medical education and self-monitoring/audit practices consistent with the scope of practice requirements of the position.

4. Proven capacity and/or experience in the provision of effective high-quality services, demonstrated through successful clinical practice in an environment appropriate to the requirements of the position including
