**The Role**
The Contract Officer is a key member of the RMC-E team and, taking guidance from the EL1 Commercial Manager, will provide contracting support for the delivery of all RMC-E contractual services that contribute to the maintenance of the Royal Australian Navy vessels based at Garden Island.

You will be encouraged to maintain ongoing self-improvement initiatives and professional development. You will also be expected to work collaboratively as a team and support in key areas to develop core skills within the team.

You will provide financial analysis and commercial advice in support of the RMP-E contract and associated complex procurement activities. You will provide support in conducting analysis as it relates to the evaluation of costs and financial aspects of the contract management.

You will assist and support the negotiations of commercial outcomes, which achieve value for money for the Commonwealth.

You will develop and foster productive working relationships with project leads and customers in support of developing commercial, costing and pricing strategies which are fit for purpose, achieve value for money and are consistent with the Commonwealth Procurement Framework and Defence policies.

This role is eligible for an additional remuneration benefit known in Defence as a Building Defence Capability Payment (BDCP). This enables Defence to provide a premium, in addition to the base salary otherwise payable under the Defence Enterprise Agreement (DEA), for positions in occupational disciplines/classifications that are critical to Defence capability. **About our Team**
Regional Maintenance Centre East is playing a leading role in implementing Plan Galileo’s ambitious reform program for surface fleet sustainment.

Realising this will ensure Defence can support significant increase to the complex fleet of vessels generated through Continuous Naval Shipbuilding.

Development of sovereign sustainment capability is key, so Defence has the workforce, systems, tools, supply chains and infrastructure to support the future fleet.

The RMC-E team will oversee the RMP-E team, whilst working together to coordinate and schedule maintenance for Navy vessels and to build resilient local and regional supply chains.

RMC-E will contribute to the delivery of continuous sustainment to naval capability resulting from sovereign shipbuilding programs and ensure Navy can respond to changing operational requirements.

The Commercial Management function within the team includes RMP-Contract management and regional contract management that will provide assurance, audit and compliance of contractors and report on performance, opportunity, and risk to Australian national interests.

We are looking for someone with initiative, strong organisational and budgetary skills, and the ability to respond appropriately to pressures and changing priorities.

Key attributes and experience we are looking for:

- Demonstrated commercial experience preferably within Defence maintenance and the ability to develop and interpret commercial and procurement documentation under limited direction;
- Proficiency and experience in developing and managing complex cost-modelling worksheets, supported by advanced excel skills;
- Demonstrated ability to effectively prioritise work and work as part of a team;
- Demonstrated effective interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills, including strong emotional intelligence, resilience, and adaptability;
- Demonstrated ability to influence, negotiate and collaborate with stakeholders at all levels;
- The ability to respond flexibly to changing situations, including using sound judgement under pressure, to ensure the success of key deliverables;
- The ability to understand the ‘big picture’ to identify any emerging opportunities or threats in relation to your program of work.
