**Position Information**:
Suspension centres are an intervention for students who are on suspension and have been identified by their school as likely to benefit from a structured program to assist their successful return to schooling as soon as possible. Suspension centres aim to provide skill development opportunities and support for students, parents/caregivers and teachers to enhance the capacity of student to re-engage successfully at school.

The Cessnock Return to School Centre provides support to students from schools within the Cessnock Local Management Group and surrounding area as a regional resource. Student population within the Cessnock Principal Network is approximately 4000, including 20% identifying as Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander. It is an intervention for students who are on long suspension and have been identified by their school as being likely to benefit from a structured program to assist their successful return to schooling as soon as possible. The centre caters for approximately 150 students per year, and forms part of a continuum of behaviour services for students who are disruptive. It aims to build the capacity of schools to deal successfully with disruptive students and assist students to make a successful re-entry to schooling following suspension.

Applicants must satisfy the teacher training and academic qualification requirements for this position. In addition to the general selection criteria,

Capacity to support the teacher and other relevant school staff to develop and implement behaviour support plans.

Demonstrated ability to work in a case management model on individualised or group behaviour programs

Demonstrated successful experience in the transition of students returning to mainstream settings following a placement in a behaviour support program

Demonstrated ability to work within a team and demonstrated effective communication with students, staff, parents/caregivers and the whole school community.

**General Selection Criteria**:
1. Successful teaching experience with capacity to initiate improvement in teaching, learning and classroom practice

2. Knowledge of curriculum, assessment and student welfare with the ability to lead and design quality, inclusive teaching and learning programs

3. Educational leadership skills to build the capacity and manage the performance of individuals and teams

4. Well developed communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to build relationships and engage students, staff and parents

5. Ability to plan and manage resources effectively and equitably to support teaching and learning

6. Knowledge of and commitment to the Department's Aboriginal education policies
