**Position Information**:
Located in the Lower Hunter region, Maitland High School is a comprehensive secondary school with a Specialist Support Unit which has eight classes. The student population is 900: six percent of students identify as having a non-English speaking background, with two percent requiring some level of EAL/D (English an additional language or dialect) support. Seventeen percent of students identify as having an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander background. Students at Maitland High School participate in a wide range of learning experiences by accessing a broad curriculum designed to meet the diverse learning needs of all students.

The school is committed to a process of continual improvement in classroom teaching practice and increased student achievement through School Plan focus on: explicit teaching; differentiation; literacy and numeracy improvement; a universal high expectations learning culture; Attendance and HSC achievement for all students.

Our executive staff is stable with the majority holding leadership positions for more than five years. Seven percent of our staff are in their early career as teachers. The school also employs a Business Manager, an Aboriginal Community Partnerships Officer, a Careers and Community Partnerships Officer and an additional Head Teacher Wellbeing and Head Teacher STEM from school funds. The school has developed a strong partnership with the local Aboriginal community. We have also fostered strong alliances with universities, TAFE, businesses and community groups. Students proudly represent the school in drama, music and dance ensembles and a wide range of sporting activities, with both state and regional representation.

**Selection Criteria**:
Applicants must satisfy the teacher training and academic qualification requirements for this position. In addition to the general selection criteria:

- Ability to work independently to design and manage a highly effective Senior Study Centre / HSC Hub which includes the development of a range of proactive systems and initiatives to promote and support the development of strong study habits, writing ability, and increased HSC achievement.
- Proven capacity to deliver high quality staff Professional Learning and foster strong parent/carer, school and community partnerships to support HSC attainment for all students.
- Ability to engage and support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students to achieve their HSC while maintaining their cultural identity through effective partnership with our School funded Aboriginal Learning and Engagement Centre.
- Capacity to develop and manage an effective Year 10 into Year 11 Transition process in addition to ensuring all students achieve their National Minimum Standards credential.

**General Selection Criteria**:
1. Successful teaching experience with capacity to initiate improvement in teaching, learning and classroom practice

2. Knowledge of curriculum, assessment and student welfare with the ability to lead and design quality, inclusive teaching and learning programs

3. Educational leadership skills to build the capacity and manage the performance of individuals and teams

4. Well developed communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to build relationships and engage students, staff and parents

5. Ability to plan and manage resources effectively and equitably to support teaching and learning

6. Knowledge of and commitment to the Department's Aboriginal education policies
