**About the Mental Health Division**

The Division provides care and services through a comprehensive range of teams, to meet the needs of mental health consumers and carers throughout Victoria. All services work within a clinical framework that promotes recovery-oriented practice and supported decision making.

**About the role**

The Families where a Parent has a Mental Illness (FaMPI) Community Worker for Children & Young People (CYP) will work alongside the FaMPI Coordinator providing support to young carers of a parent receiving care for mental illness. This is an exciting time to bring your expertise in this area as we expand services following the Royal Commission into Mental Health Recommendations.

A regular day will see you
- Supporting young carers, including through active follow-up and outreach
- Working with the young carer to identify their existing informal support network and identify gaps that could be filled with more formal supports (for example tutoring, school transport).
- Identifying how existing support gaps can be filled and facilitating meetings with the young person’s existing network as well as formal supports to plan how to collectively support the young person.

**About you**

As the FaPMI Community Worker for CYP, you will be someone who has excellent communication skills, with a strong commitment to excellence. You’ll bring energy and drive to your work and have a keen interest in developing your skillset. We are looking for someone who takes a highly compassionate approach to their work.

You’ll further have:

- Cert IV in Community Development or equivalent
- Current National Police and Working with Children Check
- Demonstrated experience working with children, young people and families.
- Demonstrated experience working within a mental health-related setting and as part of a team.
- Knowledge of young caring roles and an appreciation of this lived experience on carers and family health and wellbeing.
- Knowledge of mental health and other community service delivery systems.
- Understanding of confidentiality, consent and information-sharing legislation.
- Demonstrated experience running group programs for young people.
- Experience working with complex communities and community settings.
- Understanding of the dynamics and risks of family violence and the use of the MARAM framework.
