The Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) has an exciting opportunity for individuals passionate about customer service and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment while supervising / managing a team.

Our Household Survey Operations Team are looking for full-time and part-time people who want to kick start their career in the Australian Public Service (APS). 12-18-month non-ongoing contracts are available for **Operational Team Leader**’s at the APS5 Level in Geelong, Canberra, Hobart, and Melbourne.

**What we are looking for**:
To be successful you will have most of all of the following skills and experience:

- team management and supervisor skills, including the ability to promote high performance, cohesion and development with a team of remote Field Interviewers
- ability to manage a specific geographical area including monitoring response rates and enumeration activities
- demonstrated ability to engage effectively with stakeholders; well-developed verbal and written communication skills and presentation skills
- project management skills and the ability to achieve results within a dynamic, complex and fast-paced operational environment
- an understanding of the work health and safety challenges faced by Field Interviewers and an ability to mitigate risks and respond appropriately to any incidents
- strategic thinking and an understanding of how your team’s work contributes to organisational objectives
- conceptual, analytical and creative skills, including the ability to problem solve and provide innovative solutions.

**About the Team**:
These roles are based in the Household Survey Operations (HSO) team within the National Data Acquisition Division (NDAD). DAD is responsible for providing a wide range of high quality, timely and cost-effective data collection services to support production of ABS business and household population statistics.

HSO manage the operations of the household survey program including the ABS’s household Field Interviewer workforce who conduct many of the ABS’s surveys.

**About the Roles**:
Operational team leaders oversee teams that are responsible for the timely despatch and/or collection of household and business information including confidential data.

Roles and responsibilities may vary, however typical responsibilities include:

- managing teams of Field Interviewers (including the performance and development of staff) in a fast-paced data collection environment, including work allocation to deliver quality outcomes in a timely manner
- managing a team to ensure the quality and effective collection, printing and despatch of survey information and materials to meet tight deadlines
- supporting program reporting, monitoring survey response rates, resource allocations, operational planning, data analysis and quality assurance
- identifying and supporting process improvement by analysing issues and developing solutions to improve work practices.
