**Who we are**

The Australian Renewable Energy Agency (ARENA) is a Corporate Commonwealth entity. ARENA’s main objective is to improve the competitiveness of renewable energy technologies and increase the supply of renewable energy in Australia. ARENA was established on 1 July 2012 under the Australian Renewable Energy Agency Act 2011 (the ARENA Act). ARENA has received significant additional funding over the past 3 budget cycles and is trusted by the Government to deliver many of its most impactful emissions reduction programs. ARENA supports the Government's emissions reduction goals of 43% reduction in net emissions by 2030 and net zero by 2050, through its focus on technology innovation and commercialisation to the benefit of Australia. ARENA complements other funding bodies and provides financial assistance to renewable energy, energy efficiency and electrification technologies for research, development, demonstration and deployment projects. The provision of knowledge sharing forms an important part of ARENA’s functions. ARENA operates under its own Act of Parliament, and the ARENA Board and CEO are responsible to the Minister for Climate Change and Energy, the Hon. Chris Bowen MP.

The People Strategy team plays a pivotal role in delivering key HR initiatives aligned with ARENA's strategic objectives. With a broad remit, the team is responsible for areas such as performance management, WHS, promotions, workforce planning, and capability development. In addition to our key HR deliverables, the People Strategy team also plays a critical role in supporting ARENA’s Activation project.

**The Job**

This is a unique opportunity for an experienced HR generalist to lead and influence key strategic HR initiatives at ARENA. As part of the People Strategy team, you will play a crucial role in shaping the agency's people strategies, driving workforce capability uplift, and building a positive, inclusive, and high-performing culture. Your contributions will directly impact ARENA’s growth and ensure we have the right people, frameworks, and policies to achieve our strategic objectives. In this role, you will have the opportunity to:

- Make a tangible impact: Shape and implement initiatives that address critical areas such as performance management, learning, workforce planning and HR strategy, with an emphasis on capability development,
- Lead change: Work on transformative projects, including building manager capability, actioning ARENA’s People Survey results, and driving cultural, diversity and inclusion initiatives.
- Autonomy and strategic thinking: Operate with a high degree of independence, driving HR initiatives and translating HR initiatives and translating strategies into actionable outcomes that deliver lasting results.

Key responsibilities
- Strategic leadership Collaboration with the Director, People Strategy, to drive strategic HR initiatives that address current and future workforce needs.
- Take ownership of translating People Survey results into actionable plans, ensuring alignment with business priorities.
- Provide expert advice to senior leaders on managing workforce challenges, including performance, wellbeing and organisational change.
- Independently manage HR projects, anticipating next steps, and identifying opportunities for continuous improvement.
- Draft strategic papers for governance committees on key HR initiatives to support decision-making and strategic direction.
- Collaborate with senior leaders to assess current and future workforce needs, and develop strategies to attract, retain and develop talent.
- Build the capability of managers across the agency, providing tailored support for handling performance, wellbeing, and change conversations, and ensuring they have the tools to manage their teams effectively.
- Mentor and develop team members, fostering HR capability growth within People and Culture.
- Lead the design and delivery of learning and development initiatives that close workforce capability gaps and prepare the agency for future challenges.
- Work with business areas to conduct role evaluations and draft position descriptions to ensure alignment with agency needs and strategic objectives.
- Lead the review and enhancement of the agency’s capability framework, ensuring it is fit for purpose and supports the agency’s growth and evolving needs.
- Provide hands-on support to managers in case management, including wellbeing, performance, contractor management, reasonable adjustments, and workplace support.
- Guide managers through difficult conversations, embedding a culture of positive performance managemen
