You will play an active role in supporting and empowering our people to adopt a pro-integrity culture where our workforce demonstrates positive workplace values and behaviours. The Investigations team help to ensure that integrity standards are being met, which in turn strengthens the public’s trust in our department and the broader APS.

**Who we are**

People Division, led by the Chief People Officer (CPO), provides human resources (HR) functions for the Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water (the department) with a clear focus on the department’s most valued asset: its staff. Alongside contemporary HR functions, projects and strategies People Division is also responsible for:

- Enhancing the department’s focus on safety.
- Enterprise bargaining.
- Cultural and change management, and;
- The department’s response to Australian Public Service (APS) reforms.

Professional, Ethical Standards and Security Branch (PESS) deliver integrity and protective security services across the department. Professional and Ethical Standards (PES) are the expert advisors on ethical conduct and accountability and promote, educate and empower our people to adopt a pro-integrity culture through capability development, advice and support. The Personnel, Information and Capability Security Programs deliver protective security assurance through delivery of personnel security, information security, and security capability policy, risk management, engagement and service delivery programs to uplift security culture, maturity and resilience. We are also responsible for oversight of the department’s environmental risk profile and driving the adoption of low emission and sustainable practices across the department’s operations. We are also responsible for change management, advice, guidance and assistance. We uplift change capability through comprehensive awareness, training and education initiatives.

The Professional and Ethical Standards - Operations Section (PES Ops) includes the Referrals and Advisory team, and the Investigations team. PES Ops are the expert advisors on ethical conduct and accountability under the APS Code of Conduct, the APS Values and the Secretaries Charter of Leadership Behaviours. The Investigations team manage investigations into suspected misconduct, fraud and corruption. They are also responsible for administering the department's Review of Action scheme.

**The Job**

As an Assistant Director - Investigations, you will be responsible for:

- Leading a team to conduct complex investigations and fact-finding inquiries into allegations of internal integrity related activity across the department, including fraud, corruption and suspected breaches of the APS Code of Conduct.
- Leading a team that manage the department’s Review of Action scheme, which provides avenues for review of employment related decisions, and ensures fair employment practices, promotes a productive workplace, and provides employees with a recourse if they consider a decision was unfair, or incorrect.
- Coordinating senior briefings and reporting across the department on investigative and review outcomes.
- Harnessing new and emerging best practices to continually mature the Department’s investigation capability.
- Mentoring officers within the team, including leading capability and training programs, and providing opportunities for professional development in line with performance objectives and Branch priorities.
- Leading the development and delivery of the investigation program’s governance, policy and guidelines frameworks.
- Contributing to the broader work of the section to embed and promote a pro-integrity culture across the department.
- Building and maintaining strong and trusted relationships with key internal and external stakeholders.
