About Queensland Pathways State College
Queensland Pathways State College (QPSC) is a state high school that specialises in supporting young people aged 15 to 18 (minimum Year 10) who have significant barriers to accessing mainstream education. QPSC delivers a 12 month senior transition program with a strong focus on literacy, numeracy, workplace skills and wellbeing.
Many of our students have experienced anxiety, depression, long-term disengagement from schooling, trauma, homelessness, or other adversity. We provide a safe, supportive and trauma-informed approach to education, so that students are able to achieve their goals and purposefully move on to pathways in further education, training and employment.
QPSC has nine campuses: Bracken Ridge, Bundamba, Coorparoo, Goodna, Moreton Bay, Mount Gravatt, Mount Isa, Toowoomba and Townsville.
About the Role
As the Guidance Officer you will:
Advocate, provide counselling and individual support, recommendations and advice to students, teachers and parents in relation to educational, behavioural, career development, post-schooling pathways, mental health and family issues;
Work as part of a multidisciplinary team and facilitate effective working relationships and partnerships with parents, school personnel and external support agencies in order to provide a comprehensive support, case management and referral service that optimises students' access to and engagement in educational programs.
Identify and help overcome barriers to learning and wellbeing, providing specialist advice and recommendations to key stakeholders;
Provide leadership and specialised support in response to student protection issues, critical incidents and emergencies;
Balance the ethical issues of privacy and confidentiality for each student with the appropriateness of sharing information with others, and maintain a comprehensive and professional record-keeping system that complies with policy and legal requirements of parental and legal access to official records.
