Environment and Sustainability Advisor

**About the role**
**Ventia** has been selected to Operate and Maintain the Central Package of the **North East Link** Project - **Victoria's biggest road project** - following completion of Design and Construction. Ventia has a very significant role working with all stakeholders to ensure the successful delivery of the project.

The Central Package will be delivered as a Public Private Partnership and provides three-lane twin tunnels that will close the missing link in Melbourne’s freeway network from the M80 Ring Road to an upgraded Eastern Freeway, reducing journey times and diverting heavy vehicles away from local roads. Up to 135,000 vehicles will use North East Link every day, reducing congestion in the north-east while maintaining local roads.

The primary purpose of the **Environment and Sustainability Advisor** is to provide environment and sustainability leadership and directly manage the commercial, risk and financial administration processes for the Head Contract and Subcontract’s whilst maintaining Ventia standards and governance requirements.

To develop and mentor the Engineering and Maintenance teams to improve environmental and sustainability performance of the team and ensure that the Services is delivered within time, cost and quality requirements.

**Some of the core responsibilities**:
You will support the environmental & sustainability management workstream for the North East Link contract, ensuring we establish and comply with KPIs, EPRs, legislation and other requirements.

Other key duties include:

- Manage IS Operations Rating v1.2 submission for the North East Link Project
- Undertake design reviews to ensure that Operation and Maintenance requirements are met during the development phase and best practice environment and sustainability outcomes are achieved
- Develop Operations Environment and Sustainability Management Plans and undertake reviews of Construction Environment and Sustainability Management Plans to ensure Operations and Maintenance requirements are met
- Undertake the environmental monitoring and reporting programs including management of subcontractors and in particular ambient noise levels, air quality, surface water management, and groundwater management
- Responsible for the implementation of environment and sustainability targets, embedding environment and sustainability targets, and monitoring and verifying environment and sustainability outcomes
- Manage and support the IS Operations Rating v1.2 submission for the North East Link Project
- Undertake internal environment and sustainability audits, review outcomes and create action plans
- Management of the EPA Operating Licence to ensure compliance with the licence conditions including compliance reporting
- Undertake response to community complaints about environmental & sustainability issues

**About you**
You will have a qualification in Environment and sustainability or similar with experience working in a similar role ideally within the Roads / Construction industry accompanied with:

- Demonstrated experience in delivering IS Ratings (Design and As Built or Operations)
- Tertiary qualified in an environmental or sustainability discipline.
- IS Accredited Professional v 2.1 or 1.2
- Green Star Accredited Professional (preferred)
- Knowledge of environmental and sustainability controls, licencing and operation matters to ensure compliance with head contracts and statutory compliance
- Knowledge of project financial management processes
- Understanding of complex PPP contracts and interface agreements
- Demonstrated experience in environmental management in a road construction or operations environment with high environmental risks and complex environmental issues.
